Calling all Florists!!

grace85, 26 January, 2010 at 12:36 Posted on Planning 0 17

I'm hoping you'll be able to give me some ideas. :-)

I'm almost round to convincing my OH into going with Peacock feathers as our theme and need some back up, lol.

So i was wondering if all you lovely people would be able to send me some pictures or links of bouquets for me and the bridesmaids (or corsages for BM) and also buttonholes. Calla lillies are my favourite flower so the mix of the two would be perfect.

Thanks guys ?

Hi - I have loads of calla lily bouquets on my website (link below) but not with peacock feathers unfortunately. I'm afraid I am very supersticous (sp?) of peacock feathers as are a lot of other people! They are meant to bring bad luck if they are taken off the bird - however, they could easily be added to most bouquets if you aren't as silly as me LOL! I once bought some for my shop and from the minute they came into the shop, I had nothing but bad luck and everyone who came into the shop commented on how brave I was having peacock feathers for sale! I didn't sell any so they all went in the bin in the end ? All the bouquets on my website are made with artificial flowers as I no longer do fresh flowers now.

I have heard of people being suspicious of peacock feathers but i'm not really a super sistiocious person.

I might have a trial run first tho, lol, get some peacock feathers in the house and see how much goes wrong before i decide, lol!

    I've

used those exact Callas before! If you wanted artificial I could incorporate Peacock feathers into the design. Here are a few I have made previously:

I was thinking of having artificial for the buttonholes and corsages, if i go for them, it gives people something keep then, a reminder of the day.

? That's good that your not supersticous! They are stunning and I love the colours too and they do look grand in tall vases for the reception.

    Hi Grace

Lovely idea, and great pics Sherrie! I think peacock feathers look absolutely fabulous. We never made it in the end as the bride's gran was superstitious, but we designed a bouquet once which was a dome bouquet of roses with the shorter sword feathers around the outside. They work really well as a collar for a more traditional posy, or as Sherrie and Brenda have shown, callas and orchids look great with the eye feathers. Have you got a colour scheme in mind? They'd be brilliant with a vibrant blue and green scheme.

I was thinking of either Teal, a darker Jade green or maybe even a deep purple for the BM dresses will have to check which looks best on my BM's.

I've been looking more and more into the idea over the last couple of days and everything looks really elegant with the feathers, right down to the invites which i'm going to have a go making myself. Everything else would be really simple so the feathers really stand out and make an impact.

    I'm really excited now!!! ?

    Hello,

I'm having peacock theme for my wedding as the venue has Peacocks wandering around the gardens. My Bridesmaids are in purple. My Mother is wearing Hot Pink and the colours for the theme are Purple, Teal and Hot Pink and on my hen night all the girls have to wear one of those colours!

Here is my mood board...might give you some ideas.

Im also going to be using peacock feathers. We'll be using blue as the main colour (BM dresses, chair cover bows etc), with some green and purple in other areas eg flowers.

It seems to be quite a popular theme, i'm not surprised tho, it's gorgeous and there's so much you can do with it!

I still can't decide what colour to have has my main one, i think i'm going to buy a feather and take it to the fabric shop and see what i like most.

We're going to look at the venue we like on sunday so hopefully it'll all tie in. ?

Bet you're dead excited to look at your venue. Have you booked yet? what date?

I wanted to use peacock feathers before i had actually decided on the main colour but decided on the blue after seeing this picture as it'll suit my BMs really well.

I absolutely love these buttonholes too, think it'd tie in really well if the ribbon was blue.

And i love the idea of artificial for a keepsake as well, Thanks!

We haven't booked yet but we're both 95% about this place so we'll decide on Sunday, if we go ahead we're hoping for early next year, maybe Feb.

I was originally going to go with blue as my OH is a huge spurs supporter so ties in with their colours (and we're having spurs legends as our tables names) so that's still an option and like you said it'll look good on all my BM's.

I can't wait to actually get something booked and start the serious planning, i'm making all my own invitations, RSVP's, name cards etc so it's never to early to start putting those bits together.

How far along are you on planning??

We're 1st of feb next year!! that would make it two peacock february weddings! i love it cos its not your typical winter colours (dark red or icey light blue if you know what i mean) but it still has a wintery feel whilst being warm and bright at the same time!

Booked venue and up to now thats it really. Sent out save the dates as we're getting married on a Tuesday and its a week long kind of thing so people need plenty of notice for holidays and stuff. Im planning on making a lot of bits and pieces myself too, but we ordered our save the dates from vistaprint and i just personalised them with stick on pearls and decorated the envelopes with ribbon. Its so much fun. ?

We're going to the wedding show at newcastle at the weekend so hoping to get more ideas then.

I too am a bit superstitious and personally wouldn't have peacock feathers in the house. However the ideas look absolutely stunning and peacock blue is a really beautiful colour.
