Calling all scottish folks!!

loobyg, 25 April, 2008 at 12:43 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi guys! I want to buy a sgian dubhs for H2B as a gift on the morning of the wedding to go with his kilt. I'm quite liking the idea of a clan crest one (Murray Clan) and would like to be able to get it engraved.

I'm very aware that there are a hell of a lot of fakes on the market and wanted to make sure I don't end up with one! So, how much should I be looking to pay and where should I look, either on line or in centre of Edinburgh...

Here's hoping someone can help!

Cheers!

I think if you stick to buying one from a kilt shop you'll probably be fine.

I wouldn't worry about 'fake' ones too much, traditionalally they had a precious atone at the top, mainly a cairngorm stone, very rare, Choose one that you like, do you want a real blade? Or would you rather have a rubber blade or an all in one? Once you decide on the blade then you can decide on the handle, do you want a horn handle, black plastic, wood or ebony type. Thn you can have a clan badge on it or engraved on it. What stone, coulour of stone would you like on the handle, if you want one that is. Just google and do a search and see what you like. All the best.
