Cambridge hen do - help!

Katty1234, 30 March, 2014 at 12:16 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi ladies! Im a bridesmaids for one of my friends and she is getting married rather quickly and the hen do is going to be beginning of June in Cambridge so need to get planning ASAP! She has just thrown me an amazing hen do so def need to return the favour but just conscious of timings especially as trying to juggle with my wedding too.

So just wondered if anyone knew the area well - could recommend any accommodation - looking for nice hotel or maybe nice big house for everyone to stay in or serviced apartments? But something niceish and not too basic - i.e Travelodge kind of thing,

Think we will look at doing maybe punting in the day but any recommendations for restaurants/bars any other activities that you may have done would be much appreciated!!!! particularly any nice bars with outdoor areas as hopefully be nice!

Thanks!

There are a couple of Travelodges in Cambridge, one on Newmarket Road and one on Hills Road, both about 1-2 miles from the city centre. Most of the city centre hotels are quite expensive but there are some nice B&Bs around the place.

I left Cambridge 5 years ago so I'm not completely up to speed with all the bars and restaurants. It's a fairly limited range tbh as it's quite a small city. If you're going in early June then the students will mostly be doing exams so it should be quite quiet - but if you go just after they've finished then expect carnage! There are a couple of cheesy clubs: Ballare, Lola Lo's and The Place (the last two may have changed their names again though) and a Vodka Revs. Lots of restaurants with a range of prices depending on what sort of food you want.

Hi Im also planning a hen do for my friend in Cambridge in May.

Get in touch with revolution, they do some brilliant party packages. On the sat we are all arriving from diff areas of the country and in the afternoon going punting, but on board will be cocktail makers from Revoluition. Everyone gets 2 cocktails each. It lasts an hour. Then we get taken up to VIP entry into revolution and get a 2 course meal to start our evening off. Then its party time!

On the sunday we plan to do a bit of shopping and a spot of afternoon tea Smiley smile x

    Hi

I am married but had to write on this. I had my hen do in Cambridge last year. It was amazing!!!! best night ever. We stayed at local travelodge in Orchard park. On the saturday we all met at the park and ride as it is much cheaper and went into Cambridge. We went punting with the Cambridge punt company (there are loads that do it). Definately suggest booking this in advance- they give discount in big groups. Take your own drinks aboard so that you can get started early. We took champagne.

We then went for lunch and back to hotel. We went to Bar revolution in the evening. It was FAB! we did a 2 hour cocktail making class and then 3 course dinner with cocktail jugs and then stayed there for the evening.

In hindsight would have been better to eat before as I was absolutely wasted and didnt eat much when it came to dinner. the cocktail making was really good fun. We got taught 4 cocktails in which everyone tries and then bride has to down whats left. Do races against each other to make your favourite and whoever loses does shots. We then got another cocktail of our favourite and shots. The guys that do it are really good and funny.

there are 3 levels to the bar revs each with different music. Gets pretty busy in there which is good. We all had such a fantastic weekend. and all together only cost £79 each (for overnight stay, punting and bar revs package)

Hope this helps and you have a fab time!

    xx

I think you meant you do NOT want something like Travelodge.

Wish you would have mentioned how many will be in your party, length of stay (just one party night, weekend, 3+ days?), as it would make things alot easier to recommend.

Check out http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/cambridge to see if there's a whole house you could rent for a short term. For example, there's one place in the Fulbourn area (Home 182846, Beechwood House) that sleeps 10, has an indoor pool, and is available June 3-5 and June 10-12 with a 3 night minimum.

When reading through the listings, even though some say they have a minimum stay that might be longer than you want, if they aren't booked they might consider it - especially if you aren't crazy and trash the place and/or offer a good refundable deposit.

Yes - sorry I mean t not like the Travelodge!

Sorry not to be more specific - I don't have final numbers as yet but probably about 15-20

Think weve decided on just the one night now so just need one nights accommodation.

thinking of punting, afternoon tea and then later on meal/cocktails and then dancing

do you know any good places to end up where we can have a boogie? Just chart and cheese nusic really nothing too clubby if you know what I mean. I keep seeing one called lola los - that any good? xxx
