Good idea or not?

How much did you spend?

Where is the cheapest place to buy gold/ivory ones?

xx

    Personally I wouldn't bother.

Most people have digital camera's these days and will give you copies if you ask.

Also quality from disposable cameras is usually really poor and you end up with a bunch of crap photos which you have paid a fortune to get developed!

We're not bothering. Bit old fashioned. We're putting CD-Rs in SAEs on the tables with a note asking people to take them home, copy their digital photos onto them, and post them back to us.

From previous threads I think a few people are doing this.

Hi crystal, i think it can be a good idea but just a wee caution; the last wedding i was at had them and not one camera actually got finished and some of them even went missing, not stolen, just that people were quite drunk and probably dropped them or something.

But saying that, the photos they did get were hilarious.?

We put blank CDs in stamped addressed envelopes on the tables and asked people to put their digital pictures on them and post them to us. We ended up with loads of great pictures that people wanted in their own collection rather than some of the silly ones that you often get of disposable ones. We did give disposable ones to the children and got some funny ones from them.

We were originally going to have them, then decided to have CD-Rs instead, then someone suggested downloading them onto a laptop at the venue, so now we are going to have the laptop with us, and designate someone to download as many as possible before the drinking really gets going!

I was thinking about the CDs or even USBs for digital photos to send back but doubted that people would actually do it and just keep the CD or forget.

    Maybe I'll do a mixture.

Most of our friends and some of our family are on facebook so the day after the wedding they all put up their pix so we could see them and then they've sent us a copy. think maybe the disposables are a wasted expense? hth

We got loads of really good pictures from ours. The best still came from the digital cameras there (only 3 from the 40ish guests), but I am glad we got them. Cost £15 on some auction site and spent about £45 printing them out, getting enlargements and duplicate copies from all of the cameras (including the digital ones).

It has meant that we have got a real range of different pictures where they were dotted around the reception room and at the ceremony.

We had the same dilema - we've chosen to use weddingoftheyear.com and got our cards through the other day. it means our guests can upload their photos straight to it without worrying about CDs etc HTH

We are sending blank Cds out with the invites for people to send back with photos on. Only need 1 CD per couple/family = about 50 for us so it only cost £15.

Not all people have disk burning on their pcs. Not all people are on broadband and uploading a lot of images to a website can take a long time.
TBH I think that a laptop and memory card reader at the reception to load guests images is a good idea. Beware though that some guests cameras may be shooting RAW (not always, although possible) You would need appropriate software and knowledge on how best to work these images.......That apart I believe that this is the best option. £1.99 cameras may give fun shots, although will always lack in quality and will more than likely be grabbed by the kids and often many of these shots are not too great....

I was going to have them but not sure now. I am going to give them to the kids though and get them to do a photo challenge.

Copying an idea from a previous thread on this subject, we are setting up a card reader and laptop at the venue and asking people to upload pics periodically through the evening. No matter if no-one does as we already have the stuff anyway so its not costing anything, but if people do, excellent!!

As a general rule, the images that you get from these are very low quality - but the intention is to get 'fun' images so that is not such a problem. Unless you tell them, they tend to get used to photograph the bride and groom and you should have a regular photographer for that. What we have seen that works well is if you have someone make an announcemnt that the cameras are there to take pictures of freidns and family and not the bride and groom.

Alternatively get them to send digital images, the quality is much better. We have an option on our wedding phot site, where guests can upload their images if they want, and that works well.

We didn't have them and almost every day guest had a camera but it was a struggle to get the photos off them afterwards. If we went to their house with a laptop it was easy but I set up a Flickr account and only my uncle used it. Several friends did send CDs but way after we'd already done our albums.
Def a good idea to give them CDs and SAEs!
