Cameras on tables - worth it or waste of money?

larsty, 4 February, 2013 at 06:28 Posted on Planning 0 24

Seen a couple of comments either way on this one so thought I'd put a thread out there.

Has anyone put cameras on tables for guests to take photos? (Or going to). Is it worth it or is it a waste of valuable money?

I like the idea of getting extra pictures by guests of things you may not see during the day and have contemplated the thought myself, but in reality I'm not sure how cost effective it would be. I have noidea what developing a film costs these days, but would estimate at least a fiver per roll, and you may find the camera is full of shots of the back of people's head, or random bits of furniture. Especially once the drink starts flowing! Or if a kid gets hold of it the subjects could well be beyond imagination lol.

I did see them at one wedding a went to years ago, but don't know what the outcome was. I suppose it depends on what age/type of guest you have coming and how they are likely to get used, and whether you have the money to do it for the sake of maybe one or two decent pictures

I think it's a waste of money - those cameras are expensive and they cost a lot to develop, too. I'm not convinced I'd get any decent pictures, and I'm sure I'd forget to collect them afterwards anyway.

I have bought a few as I need to put one in each of the children's goody bags, but I'm not putting them out on the dinner tables.

Most people who do it wish they hadn't, to be honest.

Most of the time the picture quality is awful and more often than not it's the kids who have taken most of the photos.

There's the cost of developing them to take into account too.

Most people will bring their own cameras (or have them in their phones) tbh.

With the likes of Facebook etc its also easy to share photos.

I did have cameras on the tables & got them from Aldi when they had a wedding special on. Majority of the prints were too dark, out of focus, the flash didnt work or other. There were a few nice ones, but in comparison to other photos, they were grainy & poor quality.

The photo shop had difficulty printing the rolls for some reason too. Might be different if you use digital cameras on the tables, but if you use cheap, disposable film types, I wouldnt bother. I only had 6 tables, so didnt cost the earth, but dissappointing.

I think it's a waste of money. As Funky says, nowadays people will bring their own cameras, and will either send you any candid and funny shots they've taken - or more likely plaster them all over Facebook!!!

I'm scottish, so there is no way I'd have disposable cameras at my wedding - we'd only be playing 'guess who' with up the kilt shots.

I here the same things from my brides who have had them at best there are 5 or 6 useable photos from each and a big waste.
There was a time years ago when they were acceptable results, I think the problem now is that people are so used to fully automatic settings and very good light sensitivity they think the disposable ones are the same. Before digital everyone knew the limits of film and knew how to work with it,
The best thing is to get 2 or 3 cheep didigital cameras with flash and make a big label for them that says please take a snap and pass around. Even ask around I bet family have got some old digital cameras in the draw that have since been replaced with newer ones

I've bought two disposable cameras for the two 3.5 year olds we've got coming. It's more that they'll have some fun taking photos than I expect anything of great quality! I'll get them developed straight on to a CD so can put it on the laptop.

Everyone has cameras or phones these days and I expect people to use those and share.

We had them at our wedding. I wouldn't bother. There will be plenty of other pictures taken by others on the day/evening.

    This ^ plus it's free! ;o)

You could have a chalkboard with a hashtag for people to use if they instagram any of their pictures.

I really do wish I hadn't bothered for my wedding. They are poor quality and we got nothing out of them!

Everyone has a digital camera these days so how about leaving some blank CDs in a basket for people to take home, put the images onto disk and send back to you? That seems popular these days ?

I'm planning on doing the above, leaving CDs with an addressed envelope for those with digital cameras! Much cheaper than disposable ones and you can chose which ones you want to get printed Smiley smile

We're also doing our own photo booth which will be using a digital camera and then sending everyone a CD with them on as a thank you gift Smiley smile

I wouldn't bother either. A friend of mine did 8 years ago before we all had camera phones and even back then she didn't really get her money's worth out of it.

Set up a facebook page for your wedding and invite all your guests to it, asking them to post any good photos that they took afterwards.

We are hiring a photobooth - we think it will be much more fun than cameras on tables as they come with a load of funny props, guests can leave you a video message, it might get quite funny once they have a few drinks in them, the kids will enjoy dressing up and we get the memory stick with all the photos and videos on it afterwards. It's costing us £400 for three hours.

We did and and were disappointed. Threw the equivalent of a full film away of dark photos. They were something I really wanted at the time but needn't have bothered. I'll probably never look at them again tbh

My friend bought a pack of ten, I think most of the pics got binned. Pointless. The best camera was the one my OH found and took a.photo of himself pulling faces with as many people as poss. Was funny, but still a waste of money
