can anyone recommend a ..er health farm..

DaisyDaisy, 14 May, 2009 at 12:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

..is that what they're called? Surely spas are just pampery things, or is it a spa? I want to go somewhere in the south east (pref) for a long weekend where I can do fit things and torture myself in saunas and the like and then they feed me low fat food.

Can anyone recommend? (money is an object, but I have no idea what these things cost). Basically I need a weekend away from it all, but that usually means much alcohol and pastry with my bf, so I want to go somewhere alone and treat my body like a temple. (to buddha obviously with this shape)

Thanks in advance. x

It may not be South Easty enough for you but Ragdale Hall is fantasic. I much prefer it over the three Champneys I've been too, but I've not been to Forest Mere. The pool/sauna area is bliss, the food is great and it's a very relaxed atmosphere.

Champneys is nice but I feel it doesn't have the same atmosphere where you can quite easily fall asleep on a sofa in a public area, snore your head off and noboby bats an eyelid ?

Not technically a health farm but I can totally recommend Bailiffscourt Hotel in West Sussex. Amazing spa and fabulous beauty treatments. There are usually good deals on lastminute.com. Visited Ragdale many moons ago as a competition winner and loved it there - 3 days of walking round in a fluffy white robe!!

I am not sure about health farm's per se, wether they are much different to spa's, but I like going to Hoar Cross Hall in nottingham - not sure where you are located though

    It is a spa

I would definitely say there is a difference between a spa and a health farm. H and I went to https://www.alexanderhotels.co.uk/alexander/ a few weeks ago and it was lovely, but was a hotel with a spa attached, so you got the sauna/pool/treatments etc, but the food definitely wasn't healthy and there was a bar so couldn't get away from that either. I went to Champneys a few years back with my mum and that was a health farm where teh food and exercise were all part of the healthy living attitude (which sounds like what you're after)

Another vote for Forest Mere. I go there with a friend every year. We feel comfortable snoring on the sofa but I couldn't speak for the other guests!

    Champneys Tring is also nice.
