can anyone recommend a good cashback/rewards credit card?

kierenthecommunity, 28 October, 2008 at 15:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

I've had a barclaycard for about 14 years. i initially got ford points with it, but that offer has long gone.

i also have an asda mastercard ? which we use as a joint/household account, and i've just spotted on my statement we will be getting nearly £30 of vouchers in december, which is certainly better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. i also get 2p off a litre at their petrol stations.

so it make me think, as i get two fifths of feck all from barclaycard, should i get another asda card? or are there any other cards that offer something similar?

i've tried googling but the results seem to focus on 0% interest deals. but the interest rate is unimportant as i pay it in full

any suggestions? ?

I've got a Tesco one. Mr G has a lufthansa one. We both pay off in full every month so i've no idea what the APRs are.

We've got an MBNA platinum one where we earn points - and we exchange those points into John Lewis vouchers although there are lots of other choices. H puts all his expenses on this card including international travel so we usually get £100-£150 worth of vouchers a year. We've just received £40 worth which will make a perfect Christmas present for one of his family.

I have a House of Fraser Mastercard, and I seem to earn approx £15 - £20 worth of vouchers every quarter - and that's mostly just using it in HOF, rather than using the card elsewhere! Oh god, that makes me feel quite sick actually ?

I have an Egg money - 1% cashback limited to £200 I believe paid annually.

Our joint card is Capital One - 1% cashback no limit.

I believe Am Ex Platinum offers 5% cashback of a certain amount then 1% after that.

H has a John Lewis mastercard - he gets vouchers back . Each 1,000 points is coverted into £10 of vouchers, and I think he gets 1 point for every £ spent in JL and for every £2 spent elsewhere.

M&S do vouchers on their cards too I think.

ETA - not sure this counts as 'good' but we had same problem when we looked for rewards or cashback - lots of 0% deals but not good if you pay off every month. We used to get airmils with natwest but that has stopped hence H's switch to JL mastercard.

Hurumph. i've just found out asda caps its vouchers to £30 a year. and its only 1 point for every £2 spent. not as good as i thought...

although the 2p off a litre for petrol is still worth having

thanks for the link spacey, and to everyone else for suggestions. the mbna one is looking good (used to have a card with them before with a stoooopid credit limit)

I know you can get airmiles with the Lloyds one, which is good if you do a lot of travelling.

We still get the best rate on Amex. But you need a back-up Visa/Mastercard for when they're not accepted. Our back-up was Morgan Stanley, which had the next best rate at the time. It has now changed to Barclaycard so I expect the cashback rate will disappear quite soon. I think the rate on the John Lewis one is quite good, but the cashback comes in the form of JL vouchers (which may or may not be fine for you).

I have a Capital One cash back Mastercard which is pretty good with 1% back and online account management. I swapped from Egg as their customer services were shocking when I had an issue.
