Can anyone recommend anywhere abroad that is relatively cheap?

*porsche*, 5 May, 2010 at 14:45 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 2

We originally looked to get married in the UK but realised we didn't want to spend c. £30k, so then we looked at Portugal and was told it would be a 'logistical nightmare', with all the paperwork etc.

We then went out to Majorca but the area wouldn't have worked for us / our friends/family, so we started looking at cheaper places in the UK but it is still looking expensive.

We are going to a friends wedding in Rhodes on Sat and have just found out she has only spent about £2k. Is there anywhere else like this that you know of?

Look forward to hearing.

    Hi Nicola,

Have you thought about Gibraltar? My friend is a wedding organiser there and can help you arrange a lovely wedding there. Its pretty cost effective, and there are no legal nightmares like in Spain and Portugal. If you are british then all you need is your birth certificate. If you are interested call her or email her - ****@************.***. Her website also has lots of info on venues and stuff. Good luck with it all! xx heidi

We didn't want to get married here because we would have been looking at 200 people (large families) so we're going to France just outside Bordeaux. We've found a venue that is £7k but that includes pretty much everything - including complete exclusivity of the venue (sleeping 50) for three nights including the accommodation for everyone, pools, gym etc, a meal, basic decor etc. I think most people would then charge people for the three nights - even getting back £100 per room would be about £2,500 back - but we've decided to pay for everyone (and hope that they feel generous when contributing to our honeymoon fund!).

I looked at Ibiza, Sardinia, Sicily, even Turkey, but the flights were anything up to £250pp which i knew my guests wouldn't pay as it's a bit of a short-notice wedding and many people would have their holidays booked already for this year (plus be budgeting for other things) so France is good as it's easy and cheap to get to with several no frills airlines.

I think the whole thing's going to cost us about £10k, so still pretty high per head, but ultimately less stressful than having it here and being run ragged with so many guests and it means we can limit it to the fifty people we really want there! the venue is www.luxuryfranceaccommodation.com
