Can I ask a quick question about reclaiming train fares due to late running trains?

NumbNuts, 25 July, 2008 at 09:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I'm trying to work out if I'm due for a partial refund - my train out of Cambridge last week broke down and we ended up leaving about 25 mins late. I know this in itself isnt worth a refund, however it did mean I missed my connecting train, which is only hourly, so ended up arriving at my destination an hour late. Am I entitled to a refund on this - ie. is it the journey running late or just the individual train ride?

I wuld seriously doubt it, but it's always worth a try?

In the past my train's been cancelled, and then the next one's been a "fast service" to London, so I've had to wait for an hour for the next train ?

You may have to check the website of your rail company to check the terms, but I'm fairly sure I have made a similar claim with First Great Western successfully, so I think it is for your whole journey. They normally need the tickets for your journeys and either a form filled in or a letter stating what happened. They have been quick in the past to send the compensation to me, in vouchers usually.

I've been trying to look Red, but it's not clear at all. I may write to them and hope (both trains were run by the same company)

Mrs Smith - that was the problem here, I only needed to go halfway down the line.
