Can I change my colour theme?

KitButterworth, 16 November, 2009 at 18:53 Posted on Planning 0 9

I'd always wanted red as my colour theme but H2B's brother is also getting married next year and she's having red. As they got engaged first thats fair enough.

H2B suggested midnight blue which I thought was great at the time but have kinda gone off it now. Probem is I have already bought BM's dresses, shoes, bags and jewellery. Have also sent out save the date cards which were blue themed.

I really like the idea of chocolate dresses for BM's but having spent quite a bit on the blue stuff I'm on a really really tight budget if i want to buy new dresses.

If anyone has seen any cheap brown dresses, ideally around knee length I'd be really grateful if you could let me know. I know i'm being picky here so anyone who can find anything would be absolutely amazing!

Also, anyone have a good idea how i can tell H2B i want to change theme but avoid the inevitable fireworks!

Thanks

Katie Rebecca

Not sure what to suggest. When's the wedding? What is about the blue you don't like??

Brown wouldn't go but what about adding in another colour so it's not just all blue...?

We started with a dark blue theme but I've now added in teal (sashes, ties etc) and purple (flowers) to break it up a bit. I'm going for rich jewel type colours - blue will the the main colour (groom's suit, BM dresses) but the teal and purple will accent that. Also lots of natural brown in the mix in the form of raffia / wood / brown paper - as we have a rustic type venue. I feel much happier about it since I broke out from blue only.

Other colours that would work well with navy are yellow, orange, dusty pink....

Or you could probably sell the bits you have bought on eBay and re-coup some of the funds then try to hunt out bargainous new dresses!

    Thanks guys

Getting married on 3rd July so got 7 and half months to go. I'm already about a thousand pounds over budget so gotta be careful.

My dress is pale gold so the jewel colours could work really well.

    Thanks!

Sorry I'm a bit confused - so you have mostly blue, and pale gold (your dress) and you want to add choc brown for the BM dresses, did I get that right?

I changed my colour scheme 3 months before the wedding. all the invites and table stationery were navy blue, changed the BM dress to dusky pink - couldn't say anyone even noticed, let alone cared!

I don't think by changing the BM dresses you're changing the whole theme - like Amethyst mentioned - you can add some browns here and there to tie it in. browns go really well with blues in my opinion and will go well with your dress.

    Hi

Yeah my dress is pale gold and the BM dresses are midnight blue and was thinking i'd like to switch the blue for brown but it'd be quite expensive to buy new dresses and H2B probably wouldn't be the happiest about having to buy two dresses.

    Thanks

    xx

Kit if its really important for you then give it a go - any chance of managing to sell the blue dresses at all? or take them back if you still have the receipt?

Kit - firstly gold dress, sounds lovely n different!

i really like Amethyst's idea of adding in other jewelly colours, it would really make it stand out and go with your dress. also, if you are already 1000 pounds over budget, might be more sensible to spend a little more on adding different coloured accents to the BM dresses rather than changing the entire thing... and in centrepieces etc you could just make midnight blue a minor colour and focus on the purples/teals or whatever other colours you choose. just a suggestion!

dont worry about the cards, you can do something quite different for the invites and rest of the stationery.

    Hi

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm going to stick with the BM dresses and add other colours in elsewhere. Loving the swarofski table crystals and they're in pretty much every colour possible.

Also thinking about some random bright flowers in vases for centre pieces, it'll be quite cheap that way but look nice.

    Thanks
