Can I justify Jimmy Choos?

Ohwhatatuesday, 19 December, 2013 at 20:16 Posted on Planning 0 48

I've fallen in love with a pair of Jimmy Choos and I want them.

My issue with shoes is I'm limited on the heel height, it has to be no more than 2.5inches (the size of the Jimmy Choos), because otherwise the dress will be too short.

I've searched for a decent pair of low heeled shoes and the nicest I can find are a fairly plain rainbow club pair. Even they are £70 and I hate the idea of spending £70 on a pair of shoes I'm not that keen on and will never wear again.

The Jimmy Choos on the otherhand, I could wear again - for weddings, nights out etc. My other justification is it would have cost me at least £400 to order a longer version of my dress and then get the hem taken up (that way I would have been free to choose prettier higher heeled shoes) so £360 on shoes is ok in comparison.

But I'm worried that it's just a waste, that I'll regret spending all that money and I should just go for the cheaper, plainer ones. I never spend a lot of money on clothes or shoes so it feels like a ridiculous amount of money and if you'd told me a year a go I would have been writing this thread I would have laughed at you. I think the wedding has gone to my head. But I feel like if I'm ever going to get an excuse to splurge on a pair of shoes it's now.

What would you/did you do?

Also if anyone else has seen any pretty low heel peep toes please let me know!

Oh and flashes so you can see what I mean:

Plain pair

The Jimmy Choos (£290 price difference between the two)

Wow they are gorgeous! These are the other reason for me hesitation. If I'm going to have a splurge pair of shoes I'd LOVE them to be something like this - beautiful and nice and high. I still love the other ones but they still feel like a compromise shoe and I wonder if I should go for the boring ones and buy a pair of choos like this in the future.

I love the shoes you have chosen! If my OH weren't so much taller I would chose a smaller heel too!

But I understand what you mean... It's a lot of money to spend if you are not 100% happy!

That's your answer right there. I'm all in favour of splurging on a pair of Choos (I'm probs going to myself) but they HAVR to be ones you love/adore/want to marry more than your OH! Although your chosen shoes are lovely I wouldn't splurge on them ones in particular. I would pick a stunning high heeled pair that I would love forever. If you are only buying the because they fit the brief and its your wedding day so have the excuse u personally wouldn't bother. Or buy a gorgeous pair that you love, don't show the OH, go buy a really cheap pair for the actual day and plead innocence. Best of both worlds ?

If you have spare money in your budget and it will mean you are not compromising elsewhere, then I don't see why not. But it's quite a lot of pay for something you don't LOVE. If you absolutely adored them i'd say go for it. Otherwise, personally i'd keep looking. Who knows, you may find something you love for a fraction of the price. Then you can splurge on some killer heels as a post-wedding treat ?

Have you tried amazon? I type in peep toe kitten heels and loads of lovely shoes popped up!

If you fancy a day trip to Oxford there is a Jimmy Choo outlet here https://www.thebicestercollection.com/bicester-village/en you may be able to find a discounted pair.

I do love them, I'm just not sure whether I love them enough to justify spending all that money and think I might love higher heeled ones more (though I coulsnt wear them on the day). I'm just struggling to find some pretty shoes in the middle somewhere.

Pavone I've tried amazon but it's hard with a lot of shoes to work out the heel height if it doesn't say - three pairs were too high and two more weren't as nice as the picturesand it's a pain to send them back. I've had similar problems with eBay. I've ordered 9 pairs of shoes so far and looked at loads more in the shops. I think part of my problem is I prefer the look of higher shoes.

Try https://www.shopstyle.co.uk/ basically a site that does the hard work for you and searches lots of websites and compiles all the results and you can filter the search by price, colour style, brand etc.

Personally I do not understand jimmy choos at all

they are ridiculous money for shoe (Ive had boots close to that price but I have a walking problem requiring boots and wore them every single day)

chances are people will never wear them as much as they say they will (as they're expensive and you dont want to ruin them)

and to be honest ive never seen any I think look nice (sorry)

I easily think the plain pair are sooo much nicer

Horses for courses and all that!

I had Choos and I loved them. I've worn them a few times since and they're a bit ditched now but I don't regret it!

Just bear in mind that designer shoes aren't really built to last.

If designer shoes are a one off treat, I would definitely get a pair you LOVE.

    These were mine:

DCM I can totally understand what you are saying, is it worth spending that amount on a pair of shoes you like but don't love? Me personally I would spend that on shoes if I LOVED them but definitely not if I only liked them whatever the occasion. FWIW I'm not keen on the normal bridal shoes, I had a pair from Schuh that were all glittery that I've worn a few times since, only cost me £30.

If you're near Oxford I know Bicester Village has a Jimmy Choo outlet.

Also remember unless you've got a tea length dress, no one is really going to see your shoes anyway!

The choos are so pretty but I could never justify it myself.

How about something like this? (Hope I've done this image thing right!) says they are expecting more stock in January and you can set up an email alert to let you know when they're back in stock.

I bought mine at the JC shop in Bicester. If you wear them once, twice, three times, everyday its for no one to tell you what you should or shouldn't do as long as you are happy with your purchase. I love a good shoe and the price doesn't really matter as long as I feel I can afford it doesn't mean I own loads of expensive shoes just a couple but in saying that I do love a bargain. Remember make sure you are comfortable with your decision.

I wouldn't pay that much for shoes, but everyone is different. If it's something you really really want go for it... sounds like you have a plan and justification for the big price tag... do what makes you happy, as long as you are comfortable with it! x

Thanks everyone. Holey - youve hit the nail on the head there. im not keen on 'bridal' type shoes so reluctant to spend alot of money on them so really would like a non bridal pair i could wear again but go on the day. but im finding that really nice low heeled shoes are few and far between and the onlynice pairs are designer ones. the way my dress falls you can see the shoes as I walk so they have to look right or it will ruin the look.

ddpunk - they are lovely but the heel is too high unfortunately

Kharv i love those shoes soo much. And that just shows I shouldn't get the ones I posted. I'd be compromising on a lower heeled designer pair when really is love a pair like this instead. I need to either wait until I find ones I don't feel like are a compromise or get a cheap pair that will do for the day

I wish id just got a longer dress. I'll head to oxford in the new year and see what I find and hope someone starts doing some lovely low heeled peep toes for spring!

Of the two you've flashed I actually prefer the non Choo shoes. Something else to consider is getting a pair which can be dyed afterwards so that you could wear them again (I think a lot of the Rainbow club shoes are). These were mine

You can always justify Choos. I was lucky enough that mine were a present from work but I'd have bought these bad boys if not.

Gnashers I love those - what an amazing present! The lower heeled ones are nowhere near as gorgeous as the higher ones like these, kharv's and pink butterfly's. Stupid short dress/me being too tall.

Yea, it meant that I was the same height as H on the wedding day but I was OK with that. I actually got the shoes before my dress so they knew to add on an extra couple of inches, which helped.

Those gold ones are lush ?
