Can we have 2 florists?

Sash87, 30 April, 2014 at 21:50 Posted on Planning 0 3

When we booked our wedding we went for a package deal that included cake, DJ flowers etc. So my plan was just to pay the florist that is doing the package flowers for extra buttonholes and bouquets. OH has just come home from his mums and says she has a friend who does flowers and will give us a great deal. I don't know what to do now as MIL2B has already told her friend that we will need her services for the extras we want. I kind of want it all to come from the same place as one its easier and two they are more likely to tie together, also as my parents are putting a lot towards the wedding I don't know how to approach it without it sounding like MIL2B is spending their money. I would love some advice please!

We are having 2 as our church will only let us use there florist and the venue includes flowers from a different florist.

At one point I was considering a 3rd for my bouquet etc but have gone with venues florist for these now just because I couldn't handle adding another supplier to my list of contacts.

If its a good deal I would go for it...as long as the blooms are similar I'm sure it will all look great together!

Don't be pushed into something you don't want. Just explain that while you really appreciate the offer from her friend, it's actually all sorted as part of the package including the extras.

Lots of people do have two florists in that the venue sometimes has flowers included in their package price and the couple have a different florist for the actual bridal flowers. Most venues will ask about your colour scheme and will try and incorporate this into your table arrangements although some don't as it costs them less if they go for a standard mix of flowers in neutral colours rather than working to your requirements.

Having friends/relatives involved is great if you get on OK with them and the communication is done directly with you. Quite often friends of friends are asked to do flowers/photography/cakes etc as a 'good deal' but the person doing them sometimes backs out because they feel they are being asked to do too much for the price they are being paid or they don't feel they can handle the pressure that comes with it all.

If your MIL's friend is a florist, and you do decide to let her do the flowers, my advice would definitely be to deal with the florist direct rather than through Mum. This way, you know exactly what you have requested and what you'll be getting on the day. I say this from experience as I once had a bride's Mum who insisted on dealing with me direct as she was paying the bill and I had no contact with the Bride or Groom other than what Mum had told me her daughter had said. Turned out, the daughter didn't want any of what the Mum had said and Mum had basically ignored daughter's wishes and ordered what Mum thought daughter should have. The situation ended up with a row between Mum and Bride and me having to re-do the flowers at the last minute. Now, I only deal with Bride and Groom!

Edited to say that I'm sure your MIL 2B wouldn't be the same but sometimes communication passed down the line can easily be misinterpreted and if you feel you wouldn't be happy with the situation, I agree with pammy67, really appreciated but it's sorted!

I was just thinking this yesterday. My venue package already comes with flowers however there's a lovely lady who I've gotten to know through working in the food store and she works at a florist round the corner and I really would of liked to of used them so I'm hoping to use them for the church that's just across the road :]
