Canapes..... suggestions pls!

Bride2b27, 16 October, 2011 at 19:50 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi everyone,

We are thinking about providing canapes for guests as they will ahve had to travel about 40 mins to our venue and may not have had the chance to have some lunch - problem is i dont really like any of the canapes on the menu. I dont want to spend a small fortune on something no-one will eat so.......

The question is - i need some suggestions as to what canapes i could ask the venue to provide - what would you like to eat, i've hit a brick wall!!!

Thanks in adance x

We have a similar problem as I don't really want to pay all that money just for canapes so we're thinking of hiring an old fashioned ice cream cart and giving everyone an icecream with the drinks reception - i know it might not be everyones cup of tea but thought it might add quite a fun, light hearted element to the day! The venue are ok with us doing this as long as the ice cream co have public liability insurance. As we'll be having about 100 day guests, the ice cream works out at £2-3 a person rather than £5-6 for canapes so it should save us a good bit!

    Happy planning!

    We had:

Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese on Blinis, Shots of Gazpacho, Honeyed Sausages, Mini Yorkshire Puddings with Beef & Horseradish, Mozzarella & Cherry Tomato Balls with Pesto, Duck & Hoisin Sauce on Cucumber.

The chap liked his erroneous capital letters...

We are looking at some very budget, but tasty and interesting canapes.

and one of my biggest pet hates at any do, is beige food, sandwiches, crisps, sausage roll, vol-au-vents etc. That is so passe and what I totally want to avoid.

So far we are thinking of the following.

Mini fish and chips, with a few chips served with a scampi nugget.

Filo parcel filled with feta cheese and spinach (triangular)

Filo parcel filled with meat and chilli (square)

Mini Shish kebabs with chicken cube, peppers, mushrooms and onion.

and thinking about something along the lines of a vegetarian sushi type thing.
