Candy/Sweet Bar

Princess_Dimples, 7 January, 2010 at 19:07 Posted on Planning 0 30

Hi all...

I would love to have something "different" at my wedding. I've looked at Chocolate fountains, but they seem sooooo expensive. I absolutly love sweets and chocolate, and I've heard about Candy/Sweet bars. I just wondered if anyone has done this/doing this? I have a costo card, so i could buy it all myself, but I do love all the old retro sweets...wondered if there was a company. I live in Essex.

If anyone can flash some ideas that would be great!

Yeah, they are expensive for a little amount. I would want bulk amounts of sweets, and ideas on how to set it up...or a company that does this for you

I love chocolates and sweets too but thought a chocolate fountain might get a bit messy!!!!(as well as expensive) If anyone has any good ideas or knows of a company in the northeast that'd be great.

We're having those white chocolate fish and chip sweets (blast from the past!!) as favours at our wedding. Haven't bought them yet, but ebay is a great place to look! One place is selling 3kg for £15.50 (that's 300 chocs apparently)!

    Hi ChelleB2B6

http://www.sweetstall.com sell old fashioned sweets wholesale and are based in Colchester,

I bought old fashioned lollies from them as favours and a selection of sweets which I placed in jars and guests were able to help themselves. Have a look at the pictures http://www.vintageteasandrsvps.co.uk/page2.html (you will need to scroll through the pictures a little way to find the relevant ones.)

Wow I love your sweet jars and scoops. Looks fantastic! Where did you get the jars from? I've just had a quick google but can only find the scoops so far (on ebay).

I bought them from a boutique shop in Uppingham, the company they were made by is Flamant who I think are Belgium based. They were a bit of an investment but I now hire them out so have managed to recoup some of the cost!

    Hi there,

We are looking at this too, they look fab, especially if you do just your colour theme!! I am probably going to try and do mine myself as there are loads of places you can get the sweets.

However, there is a place based in Ipswich - if you PM me I will give you website

    xx

Hi planning on having a sweet table, try internet sites as i have heard that bulk buying they are cheaper then some cash and carry places. i like the site the pink sweet shop, have ordered from them before and they are good and do retro as well as new sweets so you could mix it up a bit if you want to.

If you do do it when you buy the vases etc make sure you have somewhere secure to keep them as heard of lots of people including myself have smashed them Smiley smile

There are lots of different options, stripped paper bags, ebay is the best place price wise, organza bags which can be brought in different colours, so can coordinate with your wedding colours, cones, buckets, cardboard boxes. all of which you can put tags on with your name and date of wedding if you want to. although bags are better having stickers on instead of labels. Hope this helps.

We've decided to have a candy bar too! There are lots of different coloured striped bags on ebay for 1p each - purple, green, blue, red, pink, yellow etc. You can also get the metal scoops on ebay too and Amazon. Think we're probably going to get sweets from https://www.sweetsncandy.co.uk/ as they sell a lot of ones made by Haribo which are free of artificial colours and flavours. They also come in plastic jars and tubs so we wouldn't need to buy any ourselves. We're thinking of printing stickers for them though, not sure what to put on them yet though!

We're having 10 different types of sweets, probably about 1.2kg of each, but not really sure to be honest. That gives around 100g per person for 100 people. Depends how much you think people will eat I guess!

Just remember that whatever is left over you get to take home Smiley smile lol i will buy more then i need and plan to keep some in bags under the table to refill if necessary. according to sweet for my sweet, professional firm that does sweet tables 15.2kg for 100 guests or fewer, 20.25kg for 100 - 150 guests. So that should give you a rough idea, remember the idea is that they eat some there and take a bag full home with them.

I would love to do this and love some of the table designs people have had at their weddings, but am worried that as most of our friends have children, they will just be at that table all night and there will be nothing left for the adults.

As for the Children...I too have my doubts, but most of them are a reasonable age to understand my threatening rules LOL. The Wedding CoOrdinator will be on hand all evening, and said she would watch over the children as their wandering hands towards the buffet. Im a sweetie-aholic, so they will have to push me out the way first LOL

This was my worry but i have been told by lots of people that this doesnt happen the children are too excited with dancing etc to keep going back to the table.

Hi there, I do candy buffets along with other stuff like digital camera hire, and prop boxes. I agree that the sweets depends on the size, and of the glassware too, but i *roughly* work on 150g per person. it allows a decent bag, and a top up if they are to be used as favours.

Feel free to get in touch if I can help at all!

    How about these guys:

    www.AandMEvents.co.uk

Saw them at the wedding show I went to on Sunday and they do it ALL for you and it looked fantastic. Not sure I could have set it up like that myself if I decided to buy the sweets. I think they cover Essex if that helps?

Must admit I haven't seen any that can't be done yourself for half the price. With so much available via t'internet, a DIY sweetie bar is very do-able.
