Can't decide on where to go! Help please!

Mrs-Winslow-To-Be, 21 April, 2013 at 18:32 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 9

Hey ladies,

After 3 years of being engaged, me and my fiancé are finally planning our wedding - YAY! Looking into getting married next year, and as we will only have 10 additional guests coming and our 1 year old daughter, we thought hey! Lets get married abroad!

So we are looking to get married next year (2014) flexible with dates but can't decide where! It HAS to be as cheap as possible!

We originally said Gibraltar - but as it will be our first family holiday, wedding and honeymoon all in one, we thought Gibraltar doesn't have much to offer.

So we are looking at Greece! Perhaps an island like Zante? I really don't know!!!

Also it HAS to be cheap enough for our guests to fly over and stay.

All advice is welcome! Thanks ladies :-)

    Hi,

I can completely understand where you are coming from, my partner wanted to get married abroad but I didn't so the compromise was I got to pick where we got married as he wasn't bothered, I picked Greece as it's somewhere I have been a few times and loved, but also I found a lovely venue. It's also cheaper and easier for our guest to fly to.

I can't really recommend any where for you, but I would say have a think about the type of wedding you want, is there a holiday that you or your partner loved so the place would have some sort of significance for you? I knew I didn't want a hotel wedding so that limited a lot of places, maybe go in the travel agents and pick up their wedding brochures for ideas.

The main bit of advice I would give is, that when you have an idea on where to get married google wedding planners in the area and email them for information as well as maybe going to a travel agent, I was all set for booking with thomsons but found them unhelpful and their information really contradicted what the wedding planners were telling me, so we went with a rhodes wedding planner. The wedding planners in Rhodes were very helpful and even reserved our time and date for us without us even paying the deposit.

Thank you for your reply. It's so hard to pick one place for you such a special day. Myself and partner have never been abroad so are flexible with place. My fear is that it won't be treated as the wedding I always pictured - our first dance, a 3 course wedding breakfast, a dj and party afterwards - with only 10 guests but we both fell out with our families so it will just be our parents, sisters and daughter coming. I honestly have no idea! It's hard to pick somewhere where I haven't visited and feel like I don't have any control over the whole thing.

We're getting married on Crete and using a wedding planner. it's going to be lovely, only a few guests but still in a beautiful place.

Our wedding planner is brilliant - and is helping us with everything for our wedding, even finding the best price on holidays too.

Let me know if you want me to send you her details.

    Happy wedding planning!

Thank you all for your replies! I am thinking Greece now, and my fiancé really loves the idea of Greece - said it looks beautiful! Now it's picking a location!!! My main concern is the price of flights and accommodation not the actual price of the wedding itself. My daughter will be 2 by the time we get married so have to pay for her as well! I was thinking of maybe us all sharing a Villa - then I know everyone is in one place but they also have the option to do whatever they want in the day/evening.

What's everyone's views on renting a villa? Does it actually work out cheaper or more expensive? And could you recommend the cheapest place in Greece to get married please? I like the idea of a wedding somewhere that overlooks the sea, not necessarily on a beach.

Don't know what I would do without this forum!!! :-)

Our wedding planner does weddings actually at the villas as well as in scenic places around the island. This might be perfect for you.

    Hiya

i got married in Cyprus last July and can't say enough good things about it!!

it was cheap enough for my friends and family (32 people flew out with us) you could go in a slightly quieter month and get it even cheaper and Tomas cook offer free kids there!

i had a proper church wedding with horse and carriage then reception at a hotel with sit down meal etc....

What sort of wedding ceremony are you looking at?

If you do consider Cyprus please feel free to ask any questions! Xx

    Hey Cyprus is great..

You can actually safe money if you work with a wedding planner who is independent from the hotels. It can come to a lower price because they do not really have pre-made packages and they negotiate for you with vendors etc.If you want any help/inspiration check out our website. We have some really cool offers for weddings in cyprus!
