Cape Verde

polarbex, 22 November, 2012 at 19:44 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 4

Hello

Just wondered if anyone had been to Cape Verde and where did you stay. We are after a quiet holiday but looking at the main island Sal for a bit more life. However, keep seeing reviews about lots of building work going on and wondered how bad it was?

Thank you!

I've been to Boavista island on Cape Verde.

It was a decent holiday but if you go to Boavista you have to be aware of these things:

Pros: You get a near-Caribbean quality beach with half the flying time.

There are no beach vendors to hassle you.

Cons: There is only one hotel (last time I checked) and it's the vast Riu Karamboa.

The island is basically a large rock with nothing on it whatsoever apart from one tiny village and the Karamboa hotel. This means that there are no restaurants, no nightlife and nothing to do that isn't offered to you by the hotel. I still can't believe they managed to charge us 80 Euros for a tour of the island when there was actually nothing on the island to see.

If you want to just lie on a beautiful beach and do nothing for a week then it's decent but you have to bear in mind that you can only eat in the hotel, you can only be entertained by the hotel and you only have the hotel guests to talk to (albeit 1000 of them!).

I know you haven't mentioned honeymoons but it isn't really good enough for that. Can't comment on the other islands, sorry.

My OH and i went to boa vista this summer, we stayed in the Riu Toureg, the new hotel on the island. It was a lovely hotel, I thinkit opened in 2011 so was still all new. We went on a boat trip but like the other posy says not alot there. Amazing beach and weather and a few of my friends have been to Cape Verde and they say its was perfect honeymoon.

Thanks everyone. Some friends have just been & said it was fantastic. We really do just want to crash out on a beach in the sun for a week so it sounds ideal. All booked now!
