car help!

dharma73, 1 February, 2013 at 06:50 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi guys need a little help!

We are having a very small wedding (wedding party 13 in total) on a small budget, and thought that a stretch limo (tacky i know!) would cover us for wedding cars, but just heard back and they say only one company would take that many, and would £500 seems a lot to me, we arent going too far, anyway i wondered if you all had any ideas, my budget for cars is 300 max. xxx

Before my dad piped up with the money to help us with our cars we had zero budget so my plan was to ask a few people on our street with nice cars to take us :-) it does help that my next door neighbours partner has a white BMW X6 (my favourite dream car when I win the lottery!) and someone else on my street has a camper van type thing. Only problem is I don't know them so its a case of being brave and knocking on their door! Our area seems to be one of these close knit everyone knows your business but doesn't know you type areas!

Depending on where you live and the type of people around you it's possibly an option? Or do you have a friend of a friend with a nice car? Or knows someone?

Have you tried contacting some local executive taxi firms? They sometimes have unbranded (as in no taxi stickers) mercs, bmws etc.

This! My OH uses executive taxi firms for work and the cars are beautiful you would never believe its a taxi, they open doors for him and they are always smartly dressed, worth looking into.

    • I know how you feel chick..... I need transport to get my attendants to church, come back for Dad and me then take hubby and me to reception venue..... A grand total of 9miles including empty car return trip!!! It will be 2 hrs max and very little fuel, yet all the companies seem to want 350-400.... I simply refuse to pay that much for the privilege no matter how nice the car is. I have friends on the lookout for me and the possibility of an old VW splitscreen camper (we love them), but Tbh I still would rather have an open top vintage. Think I'm gonna call some more companies and see if we can strike a deal....... I think the exec taxis suggestions are good though, and try facebooking if you have it.... Folk on friends lists can come in very useful sometimes :0) good luck xx

To play devils advocate here it is not just the fuel - we all know how much cars cost to run repairs tax insurance, also they will or should be having another car on standby if yours should breakdown, And its not just 2 hours, it will of been washed and waxed for 1 hour before, if you need picking up at 2 chances are they will be there at 1.30 just to make sure, I quite often see them around the corner waiting out of sight. To get there at 1.30 they will leave base at 1, so that 2 hours has turned into 4,plus upto another 1 hour and fuel to get back to base from your last drop off. the best ones will even do a route run before hand to time things, the driver has to be paid, and it all adds up.
The same can be applied to photography when I am told that we will only need you for 2 hours.

Yeah I know and fully appreciate all that with regards to the levels of work involved, and believe me if I was on a bigger budget I'd be spoilt for choice, but as I need to keep reined in a bit, the £400 I keep getting quoted by companies based within 5miles of the all pick up and drop off points is just too much of a stretch. Think I may have it sorted.... 1929 model T... Meeting the owner Monday and the bonus is he lives smack opposite the church! :0)
