Cards you receive before the day...

2013_Bride_, 22 July, 2013 at 12:43 Posted on Planning 0 17

Random question, but if you receive any cards before the big day, will you open them?

Or are you meant to keep them all and wait until after the big day to do it?

Ooohh its a good question! I have opened mine and quite a few had cheques in so I am glad that I did! :-)

I can now thank some of those people on the day and my mantlepiece is getting very weddingy already!

I'd wait till after the day personally.

It'd be more fun to sit down with a glass of wine with your new husband and open all your cards I think!

I kind of wonder if anyone writes inside knowing they are giving it beforehand though.

I.e. 'good luck, enjoy your day' rather than 'congrats' etc, because they are giving you it beforehand and probably think you will open it beforehand too.

I agree RE sitting down, except it will be with a cuppa as we have to do it the next morning before we leave at lunch-time for our honeymoon! Smiley smile

Mine have been written by people who clearly expect me to open them before the wedding, they do not say things like "ooohhh today is your wedding days ... etc etc"

They are mainly from rellies with kids the same age as us who probably guess the money is quite handy right now. I havent actually cashed them in yet, perhaps i should do that after the wedding!

I don't have any yet but know 2 will be on there way soon - from work and another from a friend who cannot make the day.

We held back on all except the work ones, I'm really new and they were so excited and demanded I open them, which was lovely, so I did! The rest waited until the day after the wedding!

We opened some of ours as we got some a few months in advance - these were the ones where they couldn't make it and included the RSVP card inside. We tried to keep most until the day after the wedding but some didn't survive!

I think if it happens then I will give them all to my mum so that the temptation is out of the way!

We opened some of ours the evening before. Then saved the rest for the day after (we weren't given any presents/cards at the wedding because we didn't have anywhere to put them)

It just spread out the fun Smiley smile

Ooh no, we saved them all up, and on the morning of the wedding, we lay in bed together opening the cards and reading all the lovely messages, before going off to get breakfast. It was lovely. We didn't marry until 5pm hence having time to chill out together in the morning doing this. It is one of many lovely memories of the day.

If I can I usually give the card/gift before the wedding (to save having to take it with me) and I fully expect it to be opened when it is received. Spread the cards/gifts I say!!

I made a card for my mum for a wedding she is attending on Saturday. She went to the person's house a couple of days ago to give them the card and have a nosey at the preparations (they are getting married at home).

As a bridesmaid I didn't like having to carry/look after cards that were received - and if you give them early it's one less thing to be taken from the reception by the couple. Also much safer, following recent thread about cards being stolen ☹️

I've opened one, to be fair it was addressed to us by first names only so I wasn't to know it was a wedding card... Also it said enjoy your special day so it was obviously meant to be opened before. I think if it said to mr & mrs I'd probably save it

I think I'm going to try and save mine until the day, then sit down together after and open them all.
