Caribbean and Mexico recommendations?

Bee26, 16 March, 2012 at 18:47 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 5

Hello ladies

Im starting to think about honeymoon destinations and wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere. I really want to go to Jamaica (dad is from there) but wouldn't mind any Caribbean island or Mexico where OH quite fancies. Picking the right resort and hotel is more important than the country I think. This is the most money well ever spend on a holiday and we want to get it right!

What were looking for is somewhere very luxurious, lots of restaurants if possible including the local food, on the beach with lots to do - trips, watersports and a lively atmosphere, either disco/music in the bars in evening or entertainment. When I hear the phrase 'couples only' I get the impression it will be really dead quiet and boring - am I wrong? We'd also like somewhere where there's stuff going on in the town so were not just tied to the hotel.

Soo if anyone could make any recommendations id be very grateful! If you know of anywhere that fits the bill outside of Mexico or the Caribbean is still be interested in suggestions.

    Hi Bee,

Me and my OH stayed in the Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica and this sounds like exactly what you are looking for! We didn't get married there but saw lots of weddings during our stay. They had weddings on the beach as well as in the grounds of the hotel.

There are 5 restaurants in the hotel (2 of which u can only use if you book a suite which I presume you would be doing if you were getting married there), There is a Chinese, Japanese, Steak House, Gourmet Restaurant, Italian and the buffet which s open for dinner as well. There is a jerk chicken hut n the beach and the food from there is gorgeous!! They also have a bbq on the beach as well once a week!

The beach to the hotel is private and has lots of louvers. You can hire scuba equipment and book trips from the hotel as well as pedalows if you fancy a change! there is nightly entertainment which (most nights) was good with steel bands etc. There was a nightclub that opened after the entertainment too and an all night sports bar which was always a laugh! It wasn't cupels only but we didn't see many children as there are 2 main pool areas, both with bars, there was the 'quiet' pool which was on the far side of the hotel that had an infinity pool overlooking the beach and then the 'family' pool where the games and things went on with the entertainment crew (who were amazing).

The main 'things to do' in Jamaica were right near the resort (Dunns River Falls was 10 minutes away), 9 Mile was about an hour away on the safari trip, we went into the town a couple of days where there is a large craft market and lots of bars etc. We felt relaxed as there were police around if you had any problems which we never encountered!

Hope this helps a bit with Jamaica!

Hiya, thanks for the info it sounds amazing and just what were looking for! I've had a look online and the prices are very reasonable too. The way u describe it makes me want to book it today! So will definitely keep that one in mind.

It is a fab hotel! If you want to know anymore detail about it let me know.

We haven't set a date at present because my OH os working away so we are waiting until he comes home (fingers crossed next friday!) Then 'let the planning commence!'

We are getting married abroad too, definitely the caribbean but not a Spanish Island - that is all I have narrowed it down to!

Are you inviting guests to your wedding? I think we are going to go alone and do it! Eek!

Oh we're not actually gettIng married abroad, it was just honeymoon destinations we were looking for. We were originally going to do it abroad and were looking at Cyprus (would love to do it in Jamaica though!) but there's too many family members who wouldn't be able to make it and we knew we'd regret it if we did it without them. Plus we didn't relish the idea of spending our honeymoon with both of our families! Good for you though if u want to do it alone, I bet it will be amazing! Have u been to anywhere else in the Caribbean before?

Well I've been reading up on it on trip advisor so think I know pretty much all there is to know about it it seems great. Was it quite luxurious? We'd been looking at sandals but Tbh I'd rather go somewhere less luxurious and more fun if it was a choice between the 2
