Carrier bags

HatTrick, 24 April, 2013 at 16:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Do you re-use them when you do your shopping or just get new ones every time?

We have to pay for carrier bags in Wales, so I have about 4 of those canvas folding bags in my handbag at all times. I read in a newspaper that charging for carrier bags has taken consumption down by 95%!

I do stock up when I go to England though!

We use bags for life when I remember to take them but often have more shopping than bags so end up using a few more anyway. They always get re-used in some form or another and stay in the 'carrier bag cupboard' until they disappear!

We have some of those reusable big shopper ones, but sometimes we forget them, or we go to the supermarket unexpectedly. I have loads in the cupboard which seem to stay at the same amount. They are rubbish quality nowadays though, so often I end up chucking them as soon as I get home as they are split etc.

I am naughty, but I'm really not overly scrupulous about recycling. I have a child so I should be really, but sometimes I just put stuff in the bin. I'm going to hell anyway, it may as well be in a plastic bag with an empty can of coke!

If I ever go out unexpectedly I always put stuff in my handbag or carry it. If on the rare occasion I take a plastic bag I use it for bins at home. When I get my food shop or know I am going to buy something I ALWAYS take my own bags. I work in a supermarket at weekends and the way people just see having a carrier bag as some sort of right really annoys me. and how they look at me like I am some sort of idiot for asking if they want a bag for a basket full of shopping. If you know you are going to get a basket full you should have your own in the first place...It doesn't hurt to take a bag with you. So to me, it is them who is the idiot for not thinking how else they will get their stuff out the shop.

Also irritates me when people come in at lunchtime for a sandwich and ask for a bag.... What for?????! To carry it out the shop before you eat it?!!!! Sorry just my opinion.

We use them for cat litter at the moment since we've moved. Then when the cats learn to go outdoors again I will store them very carefully and forget them each time I go to the shop.

I rarely reuse the carrier bags for shopping, but for other stuff instead...bins, for OH to take lunch in, to transport stuff...

i usually use my bags for life, but as I tend to pop to the shop on a whim, I don't always have them. I keep meaning to put 3 or 4 in my boot!

I always take a rucksack and at least 1 bag for life when I go shopping but I usually end up buying more than I intended so end up with a few plastic carriers too.

This is what we do. I keep them in a bag holder and reuse them for things round the house

I re-use them, and have loads of bags for life for the weekly food shop.

I hate it when I've clearly got billions of bags with me when I go through the till and the cashier goes "do you want some bags". Yes, yes I'll take 20 please. Donut.

I use normal supermarket bags as bin bags for our bin under the sink.

I occasionally take bags for life to the supermarket if I'm organised enough.

I don't take normal ones back to the supermarket.
