OH & I are looking for a new car, we went at the weekend to a few car dealerships and found a couple, one being a Renault Megane, we don't know anything about Renaults as neither of us have had one before! However we have heard bad things about Renaults over the weekend from friends so have been put off a bit now!

So what car do you drive? And do you like it/recommend it?

I had a clio & it gave me nothing but trouble. I will never own a renault again! Had an itermittant fault & more often than not it wouldnt take me home but they couldnt find why! Also had a leaking sunroof.

I drive a VW Polo. She is a 2004 model and runs great, The biggest bill Ive ever had for her was £450.00.

I plan on changing after our hol in Sept / end of the year to a jeepy thing. A Nissan Juke or Qashqai are our preferred models!

    Renaults aren't bad cars.

I've got a Hyundai. Not the most sporty of cars, but it's fine. It gets me from A to B, does good mileage, cheap to insure, cheap road tax and can't complain about the 5 year Warantee either.

Oh Ali I didnt know Hyundai did 5 year warranty! They are maybe a consideration then. I dont want the warranty on what we buy to run out before the car is paid off.

My sister had a megane (an old one) but she loved it and it never gave her any gip.

I've got a golf and it's fantastic. It's one of the most basic models but in terms of repiars etc its been brilliant. It is a company car though so if anything did go wrong I wouldn't have to fix it or pay for it but if I tell you its three years old and has done 100,000 miles since I've had it from new, it's been serviced regularly and never needed anything doing. The only problem I had was a with the coolant system but it went into the garage and apparently the bill was less tahn £200. I think its done quite well so far! Its due to be returned in a couple of months though and I'm getting a brand new Focus Titanium X, I can't wait!

I have a Renault Clio 2005 and I love it! It's a great car to drive and I've only had little problems with it, that you'd expect with an 8 year old car.

Hubby has a Renault Megane 2003 and I love his too! We drive each other's and, same as with mine, hardly any problems. Both have had to have coil packs replaced over the time we've had them, which is apparently a problem with Renaults, but my dad fitted them and bought them for about £15 each (£60 for full set) and they're easy to do, so not a big problem.

That's it though! No other problems. I'd def recommend a Renault!

Renaults are great IMO. My OH learnt to drive in an old R reg Clio, as did his sister. We then inherited it as his first car many moons ago....it's still going! We are getting rid of it now and only because it has a leaky sunroof. (We didn't use it over Christmas and so didn't know...everything in the car was wet and mouldy!!)
Our other car is a Renault Modus which we love. Can't fault it.
Oh's sister has a 53 Clio and again loves it, before that she had another Clio, but wrote it off.
The new car we are buiying is another Renault (And another Clio!!)

Haven't heard bad things about Renault in the past!

H had a laguna when we met, it was a pretty good car but seemed to cost him a fortune in repairs - not sure if he was just unlucky or it's a common renault trait

My previous car was a Renault Clio, 2lt Diesel, sounded like a tractor starting up. It went for 667,000 miles before we scrapped it! The car started to rust, it was 16 years old though by that point.

French cars in the main dont have a good rep. I have a Peugeot now, its not much cop.

Daddy Mini always swears by Japanese cars. MrMini by Swedish ones.

I have a peugeot 206cc convertible and love it - no good if you've got a family though as although it has 4 seats the back two aren't offered much space!!! I have had a few problems with it but I can't expect much as it is 10 years old. OH has a ford puma and we both love it - it's a great car full of underestimated power Smiley smile

Mini - 667,000 miles, really?! Is that a typo?

Do not get me started on Renault. If I wasn't on my phone I'd give u a full run down of how rubbish they are.

I bought a brand new car in 2008, 3 months later it broke down the first time, kept going in the dealership, kept breaking. One of it's many faults was that in the middle of driving all electrics would fail. This included the digital speedo and the power assisted steering, worst time this happened was when I was going round a roundabout & the steering went. I almost crashed as I couldn't turn the wheel at all, it was so heavy. I googled the fault as I was so fustrated & it turns out a girl crashed her renault twingo in to a ditch because of the same fault & ended up badly injured.

That was it. I dumped the car in the middle of Renault forecourt, right in front of prospective buyers and demanded they fix the fault once and for all. Cutting a long story short, 2 months later I got it back, fault fixed.

I soon got rid of the bloody thing. I have never encountered such rude staff. When I almost crashed one man actually laughed at me and joked that it wasn't a toyota (in a sarcy voice) as these had been in the news recently at that time for a fault when the brakes didn't work properly. I wasn't amused having been so badly shaken up.

Just my experience, and a different model, but I'd never ever buy or deal with Renault again.

As someone else said, French cars have a poor reputation.

I have a honda civic, nearly two years old. I love it. Went to the honda garage at the weekend to take my car for a service and had a look at the new shape honda civic and it looks really nice.

Before my current car I had a vauxhall corsa and it was not a good car.

My husband changes his car every 12 - 18 months so has been through a lot of them. His faviourites were his audi tt and his current car which is a c class coupe mercedes.

I've heard that Meganes can have lots of electrical faults. I have a Ford KA, I love it but will hopefully be upgrading to a more 'grownup' car next year, probably a focus.
