Cat issues

Erin8, 11 March, 2014 at 09:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Rudy got neutered yesterday and is now wearing a fetching collar. She isn't feeling too good after her operation and is very subdued for her. She has already got the collar off once but l got it back on. The problem is Mimi our other cat (and Rudy's Mum) is freaked out by Rudy, hissing at her and chasing her. We are not really sure how to handle this? Do we keep them apart or do we let them work it out between them? They normally get on so well, cuddling, washing each other etc.

Personally I just let my cats work disagreements out between them.

We used to try seperating them when they went off one, but it just meant the arguement lasted days rather than hours!

Obviously each cat is different, and if you feel they would benefit from seperation then trial it. The mum cat might just be freaked out by the big collar she's wearing at the mo.

I'd leave them together, Rudy will smell a bit funny to Mimi and the cone will be a bit odd to her. If it gets really nasty then split them for a while, but i'm sure they'll work it out and be best friends again soon.

Hope Rudy is feeling a bit brighter now.

Thanks for the advice. We are sure it's the collar as they have never been like this before. It is very much Mimi responding to Rudy, Rudy just sits there looking sorry for herself!

They don't half make you feel guilty to! One of my girls had to have a cone a couple of weeks ago and she was so sad and mopey I thought she was ill. Took the collar off for 5 minutes and she was back to her usual naughty self, she was just trying it on!

I've been beaten to it- it's the smell that will be upsetting Mimi. Our vet warned us that harrycat wouldn't be happy with the girls (well even more unhappy than usual) when we had them spayed.

my favourite from the vet was to 'stop them jumping into things and being to energetic' they are cats- they diddnt listen to that when I told them funnily enough.

Hope puss feels better soon, I wanted to cry when our girls got done, they looked so woozy.

I've dropped Darcy off at the vets this morning to be spayed, so she'll have the cone of shame when I pick her up from work later. Joey hasn't warmed to her, sometimes he loves her, the next minute he's growling at her. She just keeps out of his way, goes and hides under the bed or something.

How is Darcy getting on? Things are slightly better between Mimi and Rudy but not great.

She's come out of her shell a bit more, I think being spayed has made her more of a cat than a horny teenager. I have slowly been moving her food bowl around the kitchen, closer to the boys' bowls and they all eat together in a nice row now:

Maverick I think quite likes her, they were snuggled up together under my housemate's bed yesterday. He's been a bit of a peacemaker between Joey and Darce.

They were all playing like loons this morning though, the first time this has happened.

Sorry to hijack the thread and thank you for asking - are things better with yours?
