Cat people WWYD

One of our cats has taken himself off on a bit of a jaunt, which is a problem as we are due to take them both to the cattery in about an hour as go on hol tomorrow. I am hoping he turns up, as he sometimes does take himself off overnight and for most of the day. Some days I find him quite happily sitting in the front garden soaking wet in the rain when I get in from work, other days he doesn't budge from the house until night time, and only once has he come back later on in the evening after 9pm after being gone from the previous night.

It has thrown it down all day, so I'm thinking he may have snuggled up somewhere to keep dry and is just asleep. I am trying not to let my mind rush ahead and think of awful scenarios, and just rely on the fact that he has always returned safe and sound from previous adventures.

We need to be at the airport by 8am tomorrow. Cattery is open for dropping them off up to 8pm tonight. They don't open until 9am on Sunday mornings, but if we asked she may allow us to drop him off earlier should he appear back over night (unlikely, website seems to say that she is very strict on times).

Sort of hypothetical question, as am hoping it doesn't go this far: He is v self sufficient, so would you drop the other cat at the cattery as planned tonight, and then go off on hol and ask someone (most likely my mum) to regularly drop back in throughout the week to put food down for him should he return? Or would you ask her or OH's dad to try to get him in the cat box and get him to the cattery at a later date? (not sure either of them would do this though.) Or would you not go on the holiday at all?

    I wouldn't cancel your holiday!

Either ask your mum to feed him (my parents do this with their two cats every time they go away which is often, and they are fine) or get them to take them to cattery, they may do this if it saves them coming over all the time to feed the cats?

I bet he turns up just before you go

Has he turned up yet??? I wouldn't cancel my holiday but maybe get someone to check for him while you are away and take him to the cattery when he show up.

He came back around 5.30 thank goodness! So we let him settle a bit then got him to the cattery, the lady therewas lovely and their little run was brilliant so it was reassuring. I have major guilts about leaving them when we go away even though I know they are really placid and don't care at all as long as someone feeds them and talks to them now and again. I would have felt awful leaving someone else to get him there!

Know what you mean. Mak hates travelling (unless it's unrestrained on the bed of the campervan when he purrs and falls asleep) and hates strangers and strange surroundings. When we went away and parents couldn't have him, we had to pay for slaves servants maids cat sitters to come to the house to look after him!

Glad your boy is home xx
