I was originally going to do my own catering (we're having a village hall wedding reception) but due to timing changes and location of people who were going to be helping we decided to get someone to do it for us in the end.

If you're planning on getting your own drink etc though let me know -we've done this and I might be able to help you out with quantities etc if you need any advice - I didn't know where to start myself!

Good luck with the DIY-ing - we've found it time consuming, but very very rewarding when you see what you have achieved! xxx

    Hiya welcome to hitched ?

I personally wouldnt try my own catering, i think you'll end up flapping and wont get to relax and enjoy your day. Whereabouts are you from? Have you looked about at some catering companies. If you dont have many guests and arent going to have something hugely fancy why dont you just have a hot buffet? You're getting married quite late on so after pics etc you could just put the buffet on at 7ish?

Good luck doing your diy wedding Smiley laugh x

    Hi lozz!

We wanted to do our own catering but as it got nearer the time we realised that this was going to be a right and royal pain in the bum! We're having a hog roast so I guess that's catering of some sort, but it's literally the hog roast and apple sauce and nothing else so we need to get together salads and potates etc. So we've kind of compromised we're still not having caterers (although we have hired a couple of my brothers friends to help us out on the day for a small fee) but rather than making our own food we've enlisted the help of Waitrose! The catering range there isn't as expensive as you might think and as it's Waitrose you know it's going to be nice. So now we just wait for it to arrive and then decant it in to nice serving bowls (£1.99 each from Ikea!) and voila! One nice spread Smiley winking x

We were also going to do the same, but the venues aren't close to each other and we aren't that close to the reception venue so I'd end up stressed. Family and I are making cold nibbles which can be made in advance then whoever we get to do the hot buffet part can sort it all out and set up on the day without us needing to worry.

Caterers aren't that expensive, local businesses are pretty competitive, The person I want to use charge £4.00 per head for jacket spuds with lots of different toppings like chilli etc for people to choose from. Much better than the £15 per head cold buffet prices of some venues!! £15 for some sarnies? No ta!!

I am doing my own catering, i have been doing catering for the past 6 years and could not justify giving money to someone when i know i will be unhappy with it,

my ceremony is at 12.15pm and the evening event dosent begin till 7pm so the buffet part can be done in between that many things can be made and frozen the rest is really just plating up. After the ceremony we are having simple canapes and steak baps so easy enough, ive done my flowers myself just went to the flower market and bought foam roses with diamond pins, whole thing cost me less than £50 and ive got loads,

any help you need just give me a shout and if i can help i will
