Catering troubles

Katybear, 28 March, 2012 at 21:23 Posted on Planning 0 5

Just got engaged three months ago but trying to book caterers which is turning into a bit of a nightmare! Not only will it be almost half of our budget but none of them get back to you or return your calls or emails. I'm amazed because I work in private wealth management and wouldn't wait more than a day in getting back to someone, that's a potential deal!!

Is anyone else having a nightmare trying to get caterers to call you back? Everyone else have been falling over themselves to offer us their services but I'm getting nothing back from ANY of the caterers I've tried. This is including all of the "preferred" caterers our venue wants us to use.

Thanks,

xx

    Doesn't sound good.

Some event caterers will only be about towards the end of the week to get ready for events at the weekend where the majority of their work shall be, so if you email on a Monday you may not receive a response until Thursday/Friday has it been more then a week?

Also i found with some recommended suppliers lists issues by venues they don't update frequently i know a few of the suppliers on some of our list were no longer trading, incorrect emails or website no longer live.

Where about's in the country are you?

I'm London-based but getting married in Wiltshire. Have emailed four caterers three weeks ago and have followed up every week since - no luck!!

We've gone beyond the recommended suppliers list and the other two caterers we've approached have been a bit better at getting back... Still rather surprised about the time it is taking them!

I have real trouble trying to get an answer from our caterer too! They are highly recommended and my family have been to do's they have catered several times before. If i did not know this I would be in a right panic, or if not really annoyed by the customer service. I wonder if a lot of these companies are run by chefs/cooks who just don't get the buisiness side. I wouldn't let poor communication put you off too much as you might be writing off a perfefctly good caterer. ~I appreciate that it is hugly annoying though!!! x

Could you not mention it to the venue? im pretty sure that they would like to know that their recommended suppliers can't even be bothered to get back to clients! they may be able to give you a reason as to why it's taking so long!! x

Our caterer was really quick in getting back to us, as were the others we contacted. However, this was in January and I know our caterers have just become really busy as it's getting into the wedding season where they have more work than in the middle of winter. This may be the case for yours so you might just have to wait a while for a reply. If it's happening with the other caterers then this may be the case. Also, I've noticed that some suppliers don't use their emails much as well.

Both our caterer and cake maker have said they have been especially (and unusually) busy of late. But doesn't excuse not getting back to you!

Where abouts are you? maybe othe B2Bs can recommend caterers?
