Centre pieces / afternoon tea

MrsDJG, 20 June, 2014 at 17:36 Posted on Planning 0 11

At our wedding, we are having afternoon tea, served on cake stands, one per 2 people, 6 people sit to a table, so there will be 3 three tier cake stands on each table. I'm a bit thrown as for what we should have as centre pieces, as I think whatever we put in the centre may disappear when the cake stands arrive and I'm not so keen / it wouldn't be 'in theme' to have tall martini glass type things, should we have something or have no centre pieces? Any ideas for me ladies? To give you an idea I've done a flash below of our reception venue.

On the day, it'll look more like the bottom picture, as I'll not be having chair covers, (we like the chairs as they are) and we'll have white table linen, the cake stands will be white, I like a fresh / clean / bright look! Xx

I photographed a wedding a couple of years ago where they had flowers in vintage teapots. The bride borrowed them from friends, family & church members. They cut roses and other flowers from the gardens of the town where she lived. It was a really cheap way of decorating the tables but it looked great.

    Maybe just simple candelabras?

I had teacup stacks, and around them I put teapots, small glass bottles, candles etc and had cut flowers in them - something like that might work?

Or jam jars with flowers in? Basically, a cluster of smaller, lower things that can be put around the cake stands when they're brought out

Is there anyway the cake stands could double up as centrepieces, maybe so ribbon tied to the top, or beards draping down?

I have made some tea stands with vintage tea sets and glasses. I found odd pieces in charity shops and glued and stacked them together. You have to use special glue.

I stacked a tea plate, saucer and tea cup with a small sherry glass in between. In the tea cup or you could use a milk jug or sugar bowl you could put some flowers. I make these and sell them on my craft stall. I have some pictures if you want to see what I mean message me. They are quite easy to make you just need patience.

We have a similar problem as we are having all the food delivered to the centre of the tables. What I've decided to do is collect loads of little cut glass vases to put small flower arrangements in, i.e. 2/3 stems per vase. The plan is to have approx 3 per table. That way, it looks really pretty when guests arrive, but they can also be easily moved out of the centre of the table without ruining the while display. You could also use them as favours for the ladies too.

I don't think I'm going to go with the beards suggestion, but thank you anyway

I wonder if a single tier cake stand with lots of different height candles would look good? Otherwise, I like the idea of milk jugs, tea pots or sugar pots with flowers in, but I don't want 'vintage' as such, I want white cake stands, white tea pots, cups and saucers etc (OCD) but would be happy for colour to be incorporated from the flowers and candles..back to Pinterest I go with your suggestions to help.

    Thank you. X

Why not have a three tier cake stand in the middle of the table decorated with flowers? It will follow the theme and be the same height?
