Centrepiece help - Florist HIB?

Mitzi50, 5 February, 2010 at 12:19 Posted on Planning 0 6

Afternoon Ladies,

Im making my own centrepeices and for each one I will use four gerbera heads, just the heads, I think I will need about 50 pink ones. So im trying to find where I can get them at a good price. I have looked on ebay but they are on average £1.00 each, so that works out quite expensive, and Ive seen some on michael dark.co.uk which work out cheaper about £35 before their bulk discount, but they havent got a picture of them so I cant be sure of colour or anything. Can anyone recommend where I could get some artifical heads from quite cheaply?

Cheers x

Did think about it but thought they would be more expensive and not sure ive got time to do it with fresh ones as I thought I would probably have to make them on the day then and I will have a lot to do on the day, although im putting them in that gel stuff so that would keep them watered I think, hmmm might have to have a chat with my florist.

    Hi,

Don't know where you are located but you can use fresh Gerbera's. They will keep for about 48 hours in a cool environment - not freezing. Just snip the heads off and float them in water and then transfer them on the day. Depending on where you are having your reception, you may be able to get the venue to put them on the tables for you, if you deliver them to the site.

Look locally for florist suppliers - there are loads about and the majority of them will sell to the public. Failing that - Covent Garden a couple of days before. ( you will have to get up early though!. Silk ones are also available through florist suppliers and at CG.

The price of Gerberas vary - you can pay anything from 20p each to over £1 depending on the season and supply - don't forget to add VAT.

    Hope that helps

    Kathy

I was planning to make my own bouquets and what have you originally. We have a little local market which has a flower stand on and they sell bunches of gerberas for about £3 per bunch (of 10). Is there anything like that near you?

Nope, i live out in the sticks! The market only swings round this area about once every other month and its rare to get much more than some meat stalls!

The florist who is doing my flowers is lovely so maybe ill pop in and get her advice on the gerberas and how long they will last in my design. Then see how much she will charge for them. I was going for fake as I thought they would be easier and cheaper but I may be wrong now!

I could get them for you at wholesale prices. I have a few suppliers, You could use fresh, we bought these the day before the wedding & just snipped the heads off on the morning & set them up:

I think as im going to do them myself it might be easier to get artificial ones so i can do them the day before and not have to worry on the morning of the wedding.

Sherrie that would be great if you could help me out with some wholesale!!
