Centrepiece help - please tell me how to improve this!

BigRedCandle, 11 August, 2011 at 22:16 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi guys,

This is my first attempt at doing a centrepiece - basically we want a sweet/treat basket but thought it would look a bit plain so added a candleholder and candle... so far it looks pretty awful, any suggestions as to how I can make it look better? I didnt want a plain basket so have creatively covered it with an old t-shirt... yes, I'm a genius!

Sorry for the huge photo!

Maybe you could use a fish bowl instead? That might look better. Like this

Don't have any other suggestions...maybe not a purple candle but something more neutral?

Or..ditch the candle idea alltogether and just buy some tall Martini glasses and fill those with the sweets. Like the picture below. Think that could look really nice

Ooh i like the fishbowl idea... then dont have to worry about colours matching/clashing, and dont necessarily have to have a candle and then worry about setting people on fire.

This made me smile....but could just laugh and run.....(not laughing at your effort by the way, it was the creative genius of the green t shirt)

What about one of these filled with vintage style bags of sweeties, decorate with pearls for that vintage touch

Really like this idea too! I saw some of these in The Range not long ago for a decent price, and they were lovely! Was so tempted to buy but then they wouldnt go with my theme so would have just been an impulse buy! ☹️

Those do look very cool! I'd be worried about letting the air get to the sweets though... although i could just cling film everything I suppose...

Presentation is everything. What looks so bad at the mo is the clashing purple candle and green tshirt. Also, I am not keen on the candle being in the basket.

A basket is a fine idea, just get some lovely fabric! And don't put a candle in the middle!
