Centrepieces - help please (sorry to b a pain)

emmamc01, 19 March, 2010 at 10:54 Posted on Planning 0 16

Well yesterday i was so excited after being on here - but now i just dont know what to do.

I already have artificial pink flowers (stargazer lillies), foliage and am getting some jewelled stems too. I already have the vases!

I wanted something to fill the vases with. Sherrie so kindly showed me beautiful ideas, of crystal accents gel and flora lytes. Even though artificial flowers i could still use them. I was so excited, researched them, found them, loved them. But didnt buy them luckily. I was buzzing! Was gonna have clear gel and pink flora lytes.

I just measured my vases and they not wide enough for the flora lytes. (which sherrie did warn me) The vases are fluted so although they wide enough at the top 37mm they quickly narrow down to 20mm not far from the top either (probably about 3 inches down).

I am so gutted,i feel like i been punched in the tummy. But i still need something to put in my vases.....So do i use the gel on its own? Do i use pink gel instead of clear as cant have the lights? Or do i find something else to fill the vase with like rafia or something. I notice they do another type of flora lyte a narrow one which would fit - but can i use these with the gel as it doesnt mention being submersible??? My flowers dont need water but the gel does??? I think?

Oh i am so confused. I have to go out now too so i cant reply just yet but i would really appreciate anyones ideas!!! Thank you girls xx

    Hi again ?

Cant help but I also have this exact problem so interested to see anyone's replies. When I worked as a florist we once did a wedding where a bride had little bullet sized submersible lights which would be perfect for what we want. I have tried to track these down everywhere!

Glad all your other bits are sorted though!

LauraSJ - Ok - so apparently standard floralytes are submersible but dont last as long, and MAY colour the water if using water (they are bullet shaped) an they fit my vases.

The Flora lytes 2 are the same as above but have an off switch

Also i found diamond shaped floralytes but cant for the life of me find their dimenions so dont know if they fit!

Im going for the standard ones now xx

Thanks for that! I am going to have a think as I need to make my centrepieces up the day before and take to venue and I am not sure how well the light will last. Glad you have found everything you have been looking for!

    Hi Laura,

I spoke to Sherie about this yesterday because i'd want to make mine the day before the wedding and the lights last for 40 hours so we should be ok.

I've ordered one from Rainbowfloristsupplies.co.uk to make a mock up so i'll let you know how it lasts and after how lonbg it starts to fade.

    Hiya Girls

Sorry been in meetings all day so just seen this. With the lily vases what we do is use a long stick to push them down into the lily vases., if you swill some gel around in them they act as a lubricant so you can gently force them through the gapif they will go, once they are in you have to shake the vase to get them into the centre & up the right way.

Another thing you can use are the Eluminators, a lot more expensive but give out more light & you stand the vase on top of them:

Can you use a balloon light instead - they are a lot thinner than floralytes, you could buy a couple and some gel and test them out??

    Good luck

The balloon lights are not submersible so you couldn't use any liquid or gel with them.

I ordered the floralyte ones that Sherie mentioned in the other post!

I made up the gel yesterday and put it in my vase ready but just trying to decide on what to put with it before i do the light test (looks really good so far tho).

I'll pop a picture on when i set them up properly.

    xx
