Ceremony problem

orange201012, 28 August, 2012 at 07:52 Posted on Planning 0 5

Our wedding is booked at a 17th century hotel, in seven and and half weeks. We have exclusive use of the venue. There are two rooms that are licensed for ceremonies, a room downstairs that can accommodate 120 guests and a more intimate room upstairs that can accommodate up to 60 guests. The upstairs room was perfect for our 50 guests.... until yesterday when my ailing father took a turn for the worse and said he doesnt think he will be able to manage the stairs.

Does anyone know, whether we are registered to get married in a particular room or just at a particular venue? Do you think we woul be able to move rooms at short notice if my Dad still cant manage the stairs? If at all possible, I would prefer to get married upstairs as it is a much nicer room, but obviously, I wold rather get married downstairs with my dad than upstairs without him. Therefore, I would like to be able to have a plan B and make a final decision nearer the time.

My wedding co-ordinator is on leave so cant ask her this week, and was wondering if anyone else knew the answer?

You have exclusive use so it shouldn't be a problem. It's only if you're venue sharing with another couple that it may be occupied.

If its a hotel (albeit a 17th C one) then no doubt there will be a lift somewhere that your Dad will be able to use to get upstairs. Check with the hotel reception that they have a lift, even if its a service lift. If they don't (which would surprise me) then you'll have to go down your plan B option. But if you have exclusive use then that shouldn't be a problem Smiley smile

    Hi,

I'd definitely check with the hotel. Even if there isn't a lift they should hopefully have a stair climber or some way to accommodate guests that have mobility problems.

As far as I know as long as the venue is the same, and the room you use is licensed for civil ceremonies, I dont think a room change will be a problem for the registrar, especially in the circumstance.

Wishing your Dad and you all the best

Sorry to hear your father may not be able to do the stairs, fingers crossed the hotel will be able to provide the use of some lift for your dad so that you can have the upstairs room for the ceremony. i would deffinately recommend discussing this minor set back with your venue as im sure they must have a lift they could accomodate your dad using for your special day.

Sorry to hear about your dad, hope he feels better soon!

We had to confirm the room we were getting married in to the registrar so I would check with them if you can change as you may have to give notice again, I can't remember if we told them when we gave notice or just on the final arrangements, I woudl explain the reason to.

    Good luck
