paddyandlin, 1 December, 2010 at 01:32 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi All,

What are you having playing at your ceromony will it be a CD or a string quartet or a piano player, am still deciding so would like to get an idea of what other people are doing?

Another option is a DJ.....not a lot of people know that. This year I've done the most ceremonies ever.

If you can afford live music....thats great. if not a DJ is a cheaper option and tons better than a CD player or Uncle Charlie with his i-pod docking.

When I do a ceremony I put in a really discreat system with a sound to die for. I use a particular speaker than gives even sound throughout a whole room....something you can't achieve with a CD player. I source all the music even hymns and unusual instrumentals. As I've done so many now, there's no worries about when the music starts or fades off....its all taken care of. There's quite a lot of DJs that do this now so worth a thought.

    Hope that ramble helps.

I mulled over this for a bit and decided on a CD for a couple of reasons.

    1. You'll have more choice in what song to pick. I ended up going for instrumental music from the movie Stardust along with a couple of classical pieces and whenever I played them on my iPod, both before and after the day, I got that weird goosebumpy excited feeling because I knew I'd picked the right songs.

    2. You could end up spending a fortune on live music that you won't even hear! Honestly, when the music starts, fair enough you'll hear it, but as soon as you set foot on that aisle, you'll be completely oblivious, as will your other half.

I love listening to my ceremony music - the venue gave me the exact same CD back and I keep it in my wedding album. Okay, when I'm old and grey, CD players will be a thing of the past, but its still memories!!

    Lou xxxx

I originally wanted something amazing like live music or a harpist or something but my ceremony is in a tiny turret in the castle so space is an issue and it will be all over in 30 minutes then we go into another part of the castle before leaving for the other venue so I'm just having a CD.

I'd love a harpist or a string quartet, but OH isn't so sure - I think he thinks it'd look pretentious (sp?)

I'm probably just having a CD - a girl I work with got married last year, and today she brought me in a CD of wedding music for civil ceremonies, so I'll have a listen to that and hopefully there will be some good options on there. If we wind up with any budget left after the essentials have been taken care of though I would love a harpist or string quartet.
