Chair covers or not?

dawhite, 17 June, 2008 at 19:16 Posted on Planning 0 40

Hi everyone. ?

looking for some opinions regarding chair covers...

I have a navy/white theme and dont know whether to hire white chair covers with navy sash...

As they are the chairs are normal burgundy banquet chairs with gold (bronzy) rim.

Has anyone had them at theirs and highly recommend them ?

or is it a bit of a waste of money and not worth it?

Will cost me about £100 for 40 chairs...

Thanks x

I am paying £191 for 45 chair covers with sashes (although that does include delivery, setting up and collection the next day) so if you are getting them for £100 then I would go for it.

I think they are worth it if you can afford it, they make such an impact when they are done nicely, and if you are really going for it with your colour scheme, I'm sure they'll look great matching everything else.

Personally I'm not too big on chair covers but if the chairs will look horrible without them, then go for it.

From 2009 we are launching chair covers for £1.00 and £0.25 a sash to make them less of a luxury.

What other deorations are you having to bring the blue in? What colour is the carpet?

Sorry to crash but Miss Zoe those prices are bargainous - I'd love to have chair covers but can't afford them at £4 a go for 100 chairs I've been quoted. Do you cover a certain area?

I think chair covers can make it look that extra bit special. As long as the chairs are not scuffy it's fine without, but I do think the chair covers look good if you have a bit spare in your budget for them.

So they are not £1 each then as you have postage charges on top?

We weren't going to have chair covers until I saw a photo of our room with them and it looked amazing...as long as you are not 'over-decorating' everything else. I've had a quote at £2.95 a chair with coloured sash (DIY).

If you can afford them then they really do change the way a room can look. We are venue dressers & hire them at £4 per chair cover & sash, this includes us travelling to your venue, steaming the covers on site and setting up, we then return the following day to collect the covers.

There are some pics in our albums of previous work which shows the difference:

I think carpet is burgundy too. Other decor include navy blue table runners on white tablecloths and white napkins. The place cards have navy ribbon. Delphinium petal mix for the tables (colours - cream, purple, blue). Using thistles as well as lilies and white gerberas in the flower arrangments too.

Do you deliver to East Scotland?!

Our venue offered them to us at £3.50 a chair, but we said no. Personally I don't like them. Looks to me like you've thrown sheets over your chairs! Plus, the upholstery on the chairs already matches our colour scheme, so there'd be no point.

I think they really make a difference to a room. I have been to weddings with and without chair covers and prefer chair covers every time which is why I am having them. Mine cost £3.50 a chair (including sash & delivery etc) so if yours are around £100 for 40 then I would snap their arm off if you want them!! xx

    Hello,

We weren't going to have chair covers it never really crossed my mind until we went to a wedding fair at our venue and it was set up with the chair covers and they really made a difference.

If you can afford it then I would defiantely go for them.

We managed to get ours for £3 each including set up for 70 chairs.

Chair covers are a small reason why I wanted our venue! ? They come free with the package which is just as well as otherwise I would have been paying to have them.

We had chair covers from Tracy at Bubblicious and they were definitely nothing other than vital ot us. Even H agreed they were not a luxury they were a necessity! Transformed our venue entirely!

Zoe, if you don't mind me asking how on earth is this going to be a profitable business if you then have to have them laundered after each use?! If you've managed to find a way to do it I'd love to hear about it!

Exactly what I was thinking! We spend most of the week laundering & Ironing Chair covers, when we deliver & set up we then have to go back the following day & collect. Onsite the covers are steamed to remove any creases during transit, They are carried on rails but still have to be in tip top condition at the venue. If they are sent Mail Order they then have to be Ironed as they look like raghs by the time they have been boxed, & set up at the venue which is not always done by the venue, the cost of sending them is well over £60 and then they have to be returned which is another £60. We have had a few covers not returned at all. We have over 800 covers in Ivory & White and if you do mail order you have to wait for them to be returned before you can send them out again.

I didn't come on here to upset or argue with anyone so please don't turn this into a bitching session.

We have extremely good contacts that means we are able to hire at the prices given. Our courier does not charge £120 for delivery and collection either.

We don't just deliver by Royal mail we also do set up service that customers are given individual quotes.

We got them as part of the hire charge (which was a disgustingly stoopid £200 for an entire hotel more or less!) and it made a huge difference. Our colours were burgundy and ivory so you'd think the chairs (being the standard burgundy/goldy ones) would look great but they didn't - the chair covers made a HUGE difference.... if you can afford it I'd go for it, specially as your colours are totally different.

Personally I think if you feel the chairs are bad, then speak to your venue and ask if there are other possibilities. Chair covers look rather overdone IMO and only perfect before guests arrive and cover them with jackets, bags, wraps etc!

I wasn't that bothered about chair covers as the chairs at the venue matched my colour scheme perfectly.

However....Groomzilla wanted them as he thought they would make the room look more 'weddingy'. As far as he was concerned, he didn't want our wedding reception to look like a conference room and for him to feel as though he was at a meeting.

Ours are £3 each including satin sashes but not set up costs.
