Chair dilemma with *FLASH*

Jen31601, 21 February, 2012 at 20:29 Posted on Planning 0 34

My H2B and I are currently having a disagreement over what chairs to have for our ceremony.

On Sunday I went to a wedding fair at my venue and the ceremony room had been decorated by the company who I've hired for the day. They'd done it exactly as I'm having it so it was amazing to see it all put together. Originally we had decided to have the venue's chairs with chair covers on but on Sunday the room was set out with white chivari chairs and I thought they looked even better than normal chairs with covers. My H2B wants chair covers but I really want these. They're the same price as chair covers and we are having chair covers for the wedding breakfast and evening reception so I thought it'd be nice to have something different for the ceremony.

This is how the room is going to look:

And this is the chair close up:

This is the same room but with chair covers:

What does everyone else think? 😕

I think it depends how you have styled the rest of the wedding. The first picture i think is very modern, whilst i think the second picture is more classic wedding. Both are lovely, but i prefer the second but that is because my theme is classic elegant wedding. (I'm not trendy enough to carry off modern!)

I much prefer the chiavari chairs, but then I HATE chair covers. I love the vintage look of the wooden chairs.

I'd say without. I have nothing against chair covers per se - I'm having them at my venue, it's just that in that particular room with the white curtain at the back, I think the chairs look better without the covers and the room looks more balanced.

I like both - I think without covers it looks very different, still nice but not like a usual wedding look.

With covers looks more 'weddingy' as this is what we are now used to seeing (I won't say traditional wedding as I'm sure chair covers have only been in vogue for a few years really).

In the gran scheme of things your guests won't notice one way or the other, has your OH had much say in other things style wise? maybe this is something you can compromise on? I always feel there are very few things really worth getting into an argument or impass about, and chairs and covers is certainly not one!

    I'd have without.

if i could get away with it at my hotel i would...but the chairs are blue & the room is red & it all looks very odd.

Thanks for all the feedback guys...I'm not still as confused as ever! I think I'll have to sit H2B down at the weekend and tell him I really want the chivari chairs but if he wants chair covers then that's what we'll get ️?️ He's letting me get on with most of the other planning bits so I guess it's only fair...!

I really like them both, and think the setting suits both. I think it depends on the style of your day.

Having a small chair cover business myself i should say cover them but the chairs themselves are lovely, no need to cover them, most venues have hideous looking chairs, these are fantastic,'i

are you planning on putting a sash on them like your pic, if so i still would not not put one on each chair, maybe just on the isle chairs Xx

Without 100%! I would only have chair covers if you 'need' them! We still haven't finalised our venue but if the chairs at wherever we pick are nice we won't be having covers! x

If my venue had chairs like that i would not be covering them up with covers lol! They look lovely as they are, unfortunately for me my venue has those red banqueting style chairs so covers are a must!! xx

Usually I would always go for no chair covers - espesh with chivari chairs as I really like them, but in this room in the dark (are you having this lighting for your ceremony?) then they are kind of 'lost' whereas the chair covers stand out a bit more. Both do look nice, though, but I would be inclined to consider the lighting were it my decision...a tough one, though!

I love the plain chairs with no covers - in the photo above with the covers shown I think it looks too much - like the room is swamped with straight jackets!!! I'd keep them plain for the ceremony and dressed for your meal, with all your table settings and decorations it will soften the straight-jacket look!!! - LOVE that blue light BTW!

I prefer the chairs without the covers. In fact, I MUCH prefer them. Just wish the chairs out our venue didn't need hiding.

On here looks like its 50/50! I actually like them without the covers, but it depends what you want. The chairs look quite vintage and rustic, with the bows they look elegant! really nice!

    like the carebear chidders!!

I wish they were the actual chairs - we have to hire them but they are the same price as getting chair covers for the venue's actual chairs which are like this

So either way we'll be paying £3.50 per chair whether it's for the chivari or for chair covers on the venue's chairs ☹️
