Chanel make up?

MrsS2B2010, 24 July, 2009 at 14:14 Posted on Planning 0 11

Now that we are getting married aboad (Italy), I am probably going to end up doing my own make up (maybe with a little with of help from my mum and bridesmaid, as I'm not great at that type of thing!)

Can anyone recommend any particular brands so I can visit the counters. I want natural looking make up as I don't generally wear v much.

I have already booked a trial with Chanel. Pay £15 on the day, but it is refunable against products - sounds good to me! Will let you all know how the trail goes at the beginning of Aug. Think I'll stick with my foundation (Prescriptives) as I'm really happy with that, but maybe with a primer (again feel free to recommend a good 'en!) ?

I'd also visit Estee Lauder, Mac and Bobbi Brown. I use Estee Lauder & Mac already but keep hearing BB does good natural style wedding make up. Laura Mercier is supposed to do a fab primer but I haven't tried it yet.

Chanel foundation is the best it really is far superior to anything else. But it is also quite expensive. I think chanel stuff is really good but the price does make me cringe a bit and I find it hard to justify. But maybe for your wedding as you are saving on having someone to do your make up it is swings and roundabouts.

    Mac are very good

    Clinique aren't bad.

I have had a fair bit of clarins make up which is OK.

Its all about the girl on the counter. I would suggest going during the week rather an at weekends as you will probably get better service.

Hiya, I've used the chanel inmitable mascara which is fab! I tend to use different products from different brands, so I'd try some of the other brands aswell. My friend uses the Clarins primer and loves it so that may be worth a try. x

Personally I don't think Chanel are that great - that's my opinion in any case.

In photo-shoots I've been to they always use Mac on the models (PS I do NOT work for them - I actually work for another cosmetics brand which I will not name), also Laura Mercier and YSL are very good from my experience.

Personally I would go and look at Laura Mercier - their primer is brilliant and their products are just fab. They're not cheap though but if you are looking at Chanel then they are comparable. But MAC are good, as are Bobbi Brown.

Why not have a VIE at home (used to be Virgin Vie) party and get the consultant to give you a free make over of just natural make up. If you want you can check if she's bridal trained and see how much she would charge to come and do a make over for you if you didn't want a party.

http://my.vieathome.com/sharonspink - you can find a consultant on here under the help section, unless you're near me (Sherburn In Elmet)

    Hiya

I'm a bit of a make-up magpie and used to work in the industry... I have used pretty much every brand imaginable!

Foundation wise you can't go wrong with Mac - second choice would be Clinique. Primer - Laura Mercier or Becca primer is amazing. Main thing you mustn't forget is loose powder at the end of the foundation to fix it all in place - will last through the day.

Also Mac do a cream highlighter for your cheekbones in Pearl - looks lush in photos.

Mascara wise I would use Clinique or Lancome.. Touche Eclat by YSL under the eyes.. Sounds loads but you need more than you would usually wear for the photos to come out better!

OR another option - I no longer wear mascara but have Jinnylash eyelash extensions - look amazing and give you a Bambi look! Just an idea then you don't have to worry about your mascara running on the day! http://www.jinnylash.com/

PS. I don't work for any of these companies - I just LOVE my make up! Hope this helps anyway - feel free to message me if you need anything else! Smiley smile

Thanks so much for all the advice... as suggested, think I will try other companies too

Laura Mercier primer seems to be an all round winner with everyone, so def going to give that a try... and will go to MAC too

Love the eyelash suggestion Spanles - tried a different brand of them out at Christmas (although I think the ones I had were a bit OTT) , so think this is a good idea - not great with mascara (normally ends up smudged - even with waterproof - I'm just really not good at this sort of thing!!) x

I have been trying out double wear light by estee lauder before my big day - it is brilliant if you have oily skin (but i see you're happy with your foundation, so never mind!)

i use clinique instant perfector for my pores - evens out the skins surface and mattifies.

i love mac and stila eyeshadows, no 7 instant touch (cheap version of the YSL touche eclat), and l'oreal mascaras (currently using collagene + which i am really liking).

i had a mac makeover which was more helpful in terms of learning techniques (costs £25 but again, reddemable against products - i bought a foundation brush which is BRILLIANT), and a bobbi brown one which i was really disappointed with. luckily the latter was free!

i have got a great soap and glory gloss i'm going to use - it makes your lips tingly!

Definitely go for the Jinnylashes! Whereabouts do you live? If you're anywhere near Buckinghamshire I get mine done in Old Stratford near Milton Keynes.

Like you say, saves worrying about any mascara running etc! Jinnylash comes in 8mm, 10mm and 12mm lengths - I get a mixture of the medium and longer length so they look more natural.

Been getting them done for a year - totally addictive so be warned!
