change of reception venue

MRSPULLINTOBE, 2 September, 2012 at 18:06 Posted on Planning 0 12

Am i mad to consider changing our reception with just under a year to go, currently we have a hall and catering booked, thinking of changing to a hotel, with better parking and places for people to stay other, we'd also have to change our wedding date by one day

I don't think you are mad at all!

If you don't stand to loose too much money wise out and have found a better option then go for it.

If you don't stand to loose too much money and you have a hotel in mind within budget then go for it! I don't think it is very common for hotels to allow people to use their own caterers so you may end up having to cancel them completely.

It's deff do able Smiley smile.. and I don't regret a thing at all! I booked my orriginal venue early on.. and did love it.. but there was just little things that bothered me.. It sounds silly i know but i didn't like the carpet in the wedding room.. My new venue when i went to visit i didnt even notice the colour of the carpet... been there twice since and me and hubby still cant tell you what colour it is lol!..

If it feels right to change it and you can afford it then do it.

I changed my venue (ceremony and reception) in April and my wedding is in December. I'm 100% sure we've done the right thing, even though we lost £1k deposit.

I've got to check the terms and conditions for my caterers but i think we will only lose the deposit which was a 100, think should be able to move transport and church will be fine as oh is a member, tog is oh's cousin so should be fine with that too, current place is not my dream venue, this one is, the package that comes with it is the best i've seen around and oh loves it too

i think we will regret if we don't change it, we signed contact with caterers but venue it self only provisionally booked as they can't do it until next year

I too am having the same dilemma! Glad to read that it's not just me. I booked our venue months ago as I knew it was cheap! But since then I've found a much nicer Venue that is within our budget. Going to have a proper look around on Tuesday and then hopefully book it, we will loose the previous deposit but it was only £250. And for a similar price I will be getting a hotel venue, large room, gardens and it's a lot closer to home. I think you should go for it or you will always regret it and feel like you went for second best!

Us too! I mean what wedding colour theme can you match up to 80s red and gold swirls? Don't understand why any venue would not just have neutral flooring

Go for it, if you can afford to loose any deposits then change.
