Changed the wedding because of the footy!!!

MrsBarnett2b, 15 January, 2011 at 09:59 Posted on Planning 0 16

After booking our wedding for the 12th may 2012 oh then realised its the FA cup final day and we simply cant have the wedding on that day! So we have now had to change it to the 5th instead which i am not very happy about, already told everybody the date is the 12th and thats whats set in my head now!

He thinks that if the wedding was on the cup fianl day people woluldnt turn up, especially evening guests. He has lots of footy mad friends so i can see his point but it doesnt stop me being angry about it grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ?

Just writing on here to have a rant!

My H2B is also mad about anything that involves chasing a ball (he plays rugby, is an avid Spurs supporter, and stayed up over Christmas to watch the Ashes), and we were quite careful in advance not to clash with any football fixtures...

Whilst you might be annoyed now, on the flip side, you'd be an awful lot more annoyed on your wedding day if people were sneaking out to the bar during the speeches to check the score.

We changed our date to the week before as we found a photographer we really really really wanted and he couldnt do our original date. It takes a while to get used to the new one but it will sink in ?

I had the same problem with my first wedding - friends pointed out I'd booked cup final weekend and we had to move it.

This time we've gone for half-term week, and people will whinge about that too. Oh well, can't please veryone, and TBH me and OH are the only people that need pleasing!

We had to change our date after we told everyone because the Bishop decided to change the date of FIL2b ordination so have moved the wedding back by 5 weeks...... But in the end as long as we get married that is all that really counts..... did take ages for the new date to sink in mind!

We changed our date from 26th May 2012 to the 18th June 2011 for various non-footy-related reasons. It did take a while for it to sink but I'm completely used to it now. Luckily the only money we lost was the £20 I'd spent on save-the-date magnets from Vistaprint.

We could also have had a date in August but I picked June because "18th June" just SOUNDED more like a 'wedding' date to me than the one in August did (can't remember what it was). I am weird like that! But 18th June 2011 'felt' right to me!

Many years ago, I photographed a wedding neat Tottenham on cup final day where the 2 bridesmaids were Spurs fans. They went up the aisle with the bride with earpieces in listening to the commentary. Spurs scored and the bridesmaids let out a quiet "yes"......

Me and the OH are debating this at mo. We are looking at 9th June and by the looks of it the european championships kick off on 8th June 2012. So im kinda crapping my pants now... trying to arrange it around the Olympics and footy is driving me mad. (my whole family are footy mad, inluding my OH who is a ref, my dad who is a football manager, and my bro is a player) ho-hum xx
