Changing my name... where do I even start.

Fcerrino, 18 March, 2011 at 21:22 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hello Hitchers...

Completely flummoxed by this one.

What are the rules/laws/ protocalls and ettiquete or changing my name???

I think i'm a little bit putting it off as I love my name so much and had it for the last 24yrs and am therefore rather attatched. However really believe I should take my husband2b's name to make it 'official'

What should I do??

thankyou muchly to all replies xxx

Basically, make a list of everyone you need or wish to notify.

Then go throught the list & notify them. Some will do it with just a phone call. Some will require you to post marriage certificate (good reason to have more than 1!!), others are as well to do them by calling into the place.

There is bound to be someone/somewhere you forget and may find a letter addressed to your previous name in 6 months time, but you'll get there eventually!!

BUT, if you don't wish to take your husbands name, then i think you need to have the big chat with him about where the 2 of you stand, etc. Personally, i prefer my current surname, but due to it being my surname from a previous marriage, i am more than happy to take my h2b's surname. It'll take some getting used to though.

This has just made me realise that i really need to start thinking about my new signature! Just tried it for the first time and it so doesn't work, plus i can't replicate it time and time again either. Was holding out on trying it as thought it would be a special thing (and very adult of me not to try!)

How on earth do you do a whole new signature after decades of doing the same one! Argghhh another stress/thing to add to the to do list!
