changing your name on your driving licence!

Mrs Bass, 12 August, 2011 at 10:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

As most the OMs are over here I though this would be the best place to post!

Im finally gettting around to changing my name on my driving licence (i have already completed one form but then lost it!)

I feel a little uneasy about sending off my wedding licence so i have made a few photocopies for things like this, however, when i went to get a new form fromt he Post office the lady said that it had to be the original and reccommended paying for recorded delivery to send it and have it returned.

what did you do? if you sent your original, was it returned ok?!

Thanks!

We bought an extra copy of our licence for this reason. That way I could send it off and not be too worried if it got lost. I sent mine recorded delivery as well. I got mine back fine.

I'm pretty sure I sent the original by Recorded Delivery and got it all back fine.

You do have to send the original. I sent mine via courier (perk of the job!). My license new came after a week or so later and then the marriage certificate arrived back a day later.

I would definitely send it recorded or signed for so you know it has got there safe.

Depends on the registrar... our church charges £19, we have to get it from them in the first 18 months, then we can order copies from the council offices for £9!

This probably isnt' going to help but for my Drivers Licence I went to the DVLA office and they confirmed my certificate and details and just put the form through for processing.

Is there any chance you could do that?

ETA - any time I've sent my original certificate away I haven't sent it Recorded and its been ok but I guess thats just a chance you take. I went and got certified copies of my marriage certificate at the bank but loads of places wont take them and you end up having to send the original anyway.

I only have one copy of the marriage licence and I sent that off without paying for recorded and it came back fine after about a week or so. It was returned in a different envelope to my new licence but it arrived in the post on the same day.
