Hi ladies,

What did you do with regards to changing your name, I am thinking of getting my passport renewed so I can actually have my new name on it for when we go on honeymoon, will make is seem more real. Not sure what to do, its gonna cost me about £70 though.

What did you guys do?

I changed mine. you can only apply for it 3 months before your wedding date, and have to get part of the form signed by the person mrrying you both ie. vicar. the passport is then only valid from the date you marry. obviously your tickets for the honeymoon have to be in your married name as well

We're not going on honeymoon until three months after the wedding so I'll be getting a new one in between the wedding and that. If you do get a new one before the wedding bear in mind that it won't be valid until after the wedding day. The other thing that swung it for me was the extra forms involved to get signed etc - if you wait till after you can just send the marriage cert. Having said that, if i was going away straight after the wedding I'd want to travel under my new name!!

I have just got mine back in married name. I probally wouldn't have bothered if I didn't need to renew anyway, as now I cant go abroad until I get married, which isn't a problem just means hen do in this country. As long as tickets and passport match it doesn't really matter.

That said it was quite exciting getting it in my new name and will feel good going on my honeymoon as Mrs S

We're not going abroad for our honeymoon so I haven't got my passport changed yet - and we are going away anyway in a couple of weeks so I couldn't get it changed til after that anyway. I'm not sure when I will get it changed, it's a lot of money considering I've still got 4+ years left on my passport at the moment...but then I probably will change it sooner than that as I am changing my name everywhere else. If I were going abroad on honeymoon I probably would change my passport before TBH as I'd like to travel as Mrs A.

Just really do remember what the others have said, that you need to make sure tickets and passport are in the same name. I can still remember an awful scene at the airport about 10 years ago - a couple had just got married and had booked their tickets as Mr and Mrs, but her passport was still in her maiden name. They weren't going to let her travel because the names didn't match - that poor couple.

You get it signed by the chief registrar of the office your registrar is from. I just bobbed in with mine and they signed it there and then.

You need to get a PD form from the post office. Then you need to send the form to the Registrar, they will send it back to you and then you need to attach the form to your passport application.

Im not going to get mine changed yet - it doesnt run out til 2014 and as you only get a month per year left Im not wasting all those years!

Ill just keep a credit card in my maiden name and use that to book holidays abroad
