Cheap photographer for Hertfordshire/Essex wedding

Rachelw86, 18 December, 2013 at 12:42 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi guys,

I am wondering if someone can help.

We have provisionally booked our wedding for next June 13th 2014. We are viewing 3 venues this Saturday and hopefully to have booked by Sunday.

We are viewing in Welwyn, Bishops Stortford and Epping Forest.

We are on a seriously tight budget and looking to spend a fraction of the cost on a photographer but obviously do not want to compromise to much on quality (impossible task perhaps?)

Can anyone recommend? I am open to ammatuer etc too.

Thank you in advance

R x

My hubby is a wedding planner and his business partner has just starting doing weddings (shes from a fashion photography background) if you drop them a mail with further details they 'may' be able to help (or point you in the direction of someone who can) http://www.jjmerriment.com/

My best friend is a brilliant TOG and would be my TOG but Bridesmaid duties come first! I can't recommend her enough and she is so lovely too. Her prices are really reasonable too. Have a look at her website: http://www.timelessphotographystudios.co.uk/

    Hello lovelies,

all the wonderful recommendations are just not within my price range.

i am starting to think that maybe £200-£300 is un realistic?

    what do you think?

    xx

It depends what your whole budget is?

how did you come up with £200-300? Was it just a figure you liked or was it based on research in your area?

remember photos and rings will be there forever most of the other stuff won't be. I would have liked a photographer for that amount but based on research and what we wanted we had to change the budget to nearer £1k (our first tog was £1.6k! we had a date change then second time round decided not to have all the 'trimmings')

This is so true...and as they will be there forever, it is important to get images that you like from the day, not ones you regret.......

As your wedding date is not a weekend, some togs may be willing to negotiate a lower rate....not all, although its worth an ask.....

It is a very low budget but just as Peter said, it's worth asking if your wedding is mid-week.

I struggled with this when I first started looking for a TOG. I couldn't believe some of the prices, but after careful research and lots of reading I realize it's more thanjust showing up and clicking a button. That being said, I just didn't have that kind of money to spend.

I have a photographer now for a full day whom I am happy with at a price I can afford.

In order to afford it I did the following:

Wedding is on a Wendsday ( three days before yoursSmiley smile)

I emailed loads of TOGS and asked them to give me a quote on a series of scenarios. I gave them a rough idea of my budget.

    I haggled.

In the end I was able to get full day coverage at three venues ( My getting ready place - home), the resgistry office, and the reception venue.

I am paying under 500 quid for the above with a photgrapher I feel comfortable with and within a budget I can live with.

Might I suggest GUMTREE as a place to have a look? As long as you vet carefully there are bargains to be had.

I would ask the Tog lots of questions to rule out that they have the neccessary experience still to ace yuor photos as the last thing you want is missing 'the shots' but totes understand the budget worries....all you can do is research and ask questions. Good luck x

For someone starting out, as in their first ever wedding, £200 is ok. Someone experienced who runs it as a business, no chance. I know we see deals like this from time to time on living social and stuff but £200-£300 is really low.

Not unrealistic. Budgets are what they are. As already mentioned, try Gumtree. At that price the chances of them being insured, having backup equipment, experience or equipment of any quality is greatly reduced.

But hey, I started out at £150.

    Hi There

Your budget may possibly be a tad low, but you never know till you ask i suppose. I see a lot of posts re tight budget, understandably, but choose wisely as this is your big day dont forget and what seems like cost saving now, could be the worst £400 you save if you dont get what you want in terms of quality.

Its a tricky one, amatueur doesnt necessarliy mean Bad though, i have seen amazing non pro images. Hope you find the right man/woman for the job.

    Im essex based, www.gregcoltmanphotography.com.

Make sur you meet them and have a raport with them too....its important. I shoot weddings and have chosen a tog for my wedding and we looked far and wide for someone that we had a raport with. I got married in 2007 and am still in contact with him now, even second shot for him ...

    All the best

I think your budget is a bit low. I didn't want to spend alot on a photographer, but after doing some research I realised that this is an area i should be spending a lot on as the pictures are the memories we are going to have forever. So if you can afford to spend a bit more on a photographer i would seriously consider doing so. Have a look on groupon, ive seen a few wedding photographer deals on there x
