Cheshire Brides - What is your Venue? x

stephers01, 11 February, 2014 at 22:52 Posted on Planning 0 39

Hi Everyone, Loving this website and the forums.

Ive now looked round 5 venues with another 4 lined up this week! Certain places I dont even want to visit as they just arent my cup of tea so it got me thinking what venues have other Cheshire Brides chosen?

If you would like to share your 'Chosen One' maybe including the date your getting wed, that would be nice :-)

Look forward to hearing from you all xxx

We're getting married at Mottram Hall 25 July this year! We weren't going to go and look round as didn't think I'd like it, but actually it was stunning, it's just had a massive refurb this last year, so all rooms are beautifully decorated, and the spa is amazing! The Rose gardens are jus gorgeous in the summer, and we're hoping to have our ceremony outside (fingers crossed it doesn't rain!!)

    Good luck venue hunting!

Im going to look at Motram on Friday and think I will fall in love. Will try not to get carried away with the fact it's set up for a valentines wedding.

If we chose there I would love to get married outdoors. I hope u get too.

Truthfully though it is abit more than we wanted to spend as they have such high minimum numbers :-( it's cheaper on a Sunday though so we may have to opt for then but I do really want a Saturday.

    Ive currently looked round

    colshaw hall

    the cottons knutsford

    marriot Worsley

    alderley edge hotel

    mariot airport

budget really for the venue, food, drink etc is around £7000

keen to look round Rookery hall but it is abit further than I wanted to go x

Some friends of ours married at Etrop Grange hotel, fairly close to Manchester airport. A beautiful Georgian building, which they got a really fab price on.

I think the Belle Époque is lovely. My best friend got married there in 2012 but I would like somewhere different. My cousin got married at Peckforton Castle, and that was fab but not my cup of tea.

Styal lodge is beautiful :-) lovely choice. I just really want somewhere with rooms for guests x

Etrop grange isn't far from me and that picture at the back is lovely. Will ring and view it. Plus Rookery Hall. Nunsmere isn't my cup of tea but thanks.

We are 60 in the day and 100 in the evening. So we can fit in most venues, even the smaller ones x

loving hearing where u have all chosen. Keep them coming!! I see Sandhole oak barn is a popular choice xxx

We have decided on hiring alder root golf club marquee as we want a more outdoor wedding but we looked at a lot in the northwest area.

    Hi

I am a Cheshire bride. We are getting married at Cottons, in Knutsford. We did look at The Mere but they only had one room free on our date and the minimum day numbers were 180 which was far too many for us.

Where abouts in Cheshire are you?

    xx

    Hi Sam 12345!!

We currently have a date provisionally booked at the cottons but I've had 2nd thoughts :-( I think it's lovely, the room is neutral which I like and the staff are lovely. I live how it's set out and the dance floor but the biggest thing that keeps bothering me is how it is upstairs and there aren't any garden or patio area to enjoy should it be a nice day. I keep imagining the hottest day of the year and my guests not being able to enjoy the weather. The close the balcony so early as well. Sorry I'm not trying to dampen your choice as I too like it.

    Im from Sale,where are u based? X

I'm in Macclesfield but my family are from Eccles so we wanted somewhere central. I know what you mean about the outdoor area. We are getting married 6th Sept so are hoping to open the balcony doors if its warm for the guests to go out there. We are having the ceremony and champagne/canapés in the Courtyard - do you have to many guests for in there? That opens up doesn't it to a small area? The weather is a nightmare, you could look for somewhere with an outdoor area and it rain lol us brides can't win!

I had second thoughts about Cottons that's why we looked at The Mere but after a wobble thought we booked it because we loved it and after going on Tuesday for the menu tasting I am so glad we didn't change!

Have you looked at Sale Water Park aws a venue choice - we went to a Xmas Party in a marquee there and it was gorgeous x

I'm originally from Macclesfield and so are my parents. Most of my family live there!

It actually really upsets me becoz I don't know what to do :-( I do like the place. Yes we would have our arrival drinks in the courtyard but our ceremony at a local church to us.

So pleased u like the food. That's a good start :-)

could I ask why u had second thoughts?

And yes u are correct, I could pick somewere with outside space probably twice as much and it rain all day. I'm going to look at Motram Hall tomorrow. Did u consider there? X

Oh and I'm disappointed that the balcony doors have to be closed by 8 o'clock as that balcony is so lovely and as u say will be nice to have it open on a nice day x

I didn't know about them closing the doors at 8 - going to add that onto my list for Fiona. I had a wobble about the cost of it and it sounds silly now but after seeing all the grand manors and things I thought for the amount Cotton's was costing us we could get somewhere that looked posher and would impress others more. My OH went mad when I told him we were viewing The Mere after already putting our deposit down.

My OH's cousin got married at Mottram Hall so we didn't want to copy, even though it was 15 years ago(haha). I have just asked him and he said it was a lovely venue really posh.

    x

Sam you have pretty much hit the nail on the head as to my thoughts. Although truthfully it's this outside space that bothers me the most. I don't want to impress others but I want a day that feels special ( as I know everyone does ) and I thoughtsr a grander place might do that. We haven't paid a deposit yet but I can imagine ur other half going mental, lol.

They have to close the balcony due to health and safety from drunk people apparently. The reason we asked is my OHs golf club have a balcony and it gets shut at 10 but that's due to noise pollution for the local neighbours.

I have a feeling I'm going to love motram, baring in mind it's at least an extra £3000 on top of the cottons tho :-( but part of me feels bad a some of my heart is at the cottons.

I never thought choosing a cd ur would be this hard and now I'm starting to feel down. Although I'm glad you are sorted now it is good to know I am not the only one to have a wobble about the venue x

could I ask why u didn't choose anywhere else in the end? Did u like somewhere better or was it the fact ur date wasn't available? I've not looked at Mere, should I? Lol sorry for all the questions xxx

Ask away lol. We looked at The Mere and who knows if it would have been available what we would have done but we had a proper chat about it and went back to re-view Cotton's. My OH reminded me why we loved Cotton's so much - I loved the Courtyard and could see myself walking down an aisle on it. We didn't view anywhere else before Cotton's because we thought it was perfect for what we wanted. When we started I didn't want a big grand wedding, I wanted an elegant simple day and Cotton's offered that but yeah it is expensive and my OH said Mottram is more money but you only get married once (hopefully) so you need somewhere prefect for you.

    xx

We're getting married at Hilltop Country House in Prestbury. They don't do a lot of advertising so we just stumbled across it. It's beautiful!

I too only wanted a simple wedding as we were originally thinking about getting married abroad and looked into the costings of that.

Then I realised I wanted something more traditional that included wedfing speeches, choosing our vows and have a proper first dance. I didn't like anything until I viewed the cottons. And I was losing hope. I saw 5 maybe 4 places before the cottons. I originally wasn't even going to look at it as I knew it was on a main road having been there for a spa day once. When I got there it worked and Kevin who showed us round was nice. I love the beige carpet and curtains, the bar is cool and the separate room they use for the buffet is a good idea. I even like the black and white dance floor. It was also the least expensive of everywhere we had priced up bar 1 other.

I just feel like no place have I gone weak at the knees at. But does that always happen. Maybe that's only in fairytales. Ur OH is so right tho, I do plan on only getting married once. Me and my OH have been together 10 years this year so if we've lasted this long :-) ............

    Xx

I've seen picture of the hiltop, will revisit the venue online later and maybe go for a show round. Does it have accommodation? X

Yeah I think it has 4 rooms altogether but there's a premier inn a short distance away if more people need to stay over. It's definitely worth a visit but I am a bit biased Smiley smile

It would seem u and me have alot in common Sam1234 lol

my OH likes the cottons but baring in mind it is the only venue he had been too and he likes that its only 20/25 mins for our evening guests to travel. He seems more concerned about that. He then says 'well if I want somewhere further away then just don't expect anyone to come in the evening' which piles of more pressure and I already feel stressed x

Haha men know just what to say to clm us down! Your guests will come anywhere if they want to come and it's closer for your Macc guests. If it has rooms for guests to stay they might do them discounted. I'm asking my evening guests to come from Manchester&Macc to Knutsford and kind of think now if you can't be bothered making an effort to come your not really worth having there xx

    Lol, ur totally right.

We are going to put on a few minibuses to pick our evening guests up and it really isnt that much further from Sale to Knutsford or Sale to Mottram as an example. I can make it to Knutsford in just under 25 and Mottram in 30 mins. And as you say if people really dont want to make the effort then they arent worth it. Abit of a pain when you have paid for the evening food though x

So the food tasting went well at the cottons? Have u chosen ur menu then? x
