Child of the 90's - basing knowledge on Neighbours

Stelly, 15 October, 2008 at 16:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Argh, feel dead dim. Perhaps it is symptomatic of my childhood, watching too much telly... met my new neighbour the other day and her name is Bronwyn. First Bronwyn I've met in the USA. When I told H what her name was he said

"What? Bron what?"

"Bronwyn. Bron - when, you div"

"What kind of name is that?"

"It's Australian" (based solely on the fact that the only Bronwyn I've encountered was a character in Neighbours)

I started to have a nagging feeling that perhaps I was wrong, googled and (of course!) the name is Welsh. Oddly enough it seems to mean "white breast" which is reason enough not to bestow it on a child.

Feel my whole foundation of knowledge is shaken - how many other things do I believe are Australian, simply because I saw them on Neighbours?!?

Bronwyn is Australian. Because she's the only person I've ever known with that name too. Thats my basis of FACT.

I wrongly based temperature knowledge on Neighbours

It always seems warm there so didnt think Id need a jumper when I went - boy was I wrong, Sydney in winter is only 16 degrees (and its a lot colder in the Blue Mountains) - that was chilly and I ended up buying a few thick jumpers!

I thought that too and when we went to visit the neighbours set it was freezing cold despite it being their summer!!

I went to school with a Bronwyn (in Wales) so therefore knew it was welsh. However, I think you can also spell it Bronwen which doesn't look quite so welsh.
