Wizzy's 3rd birthday is in 2 weeks and we're planning to have a little party for her, just family and 3/4 of her friends from Tuneful Tots etc. However, Mr Hole has said that he wants to invite some people (who have small children) from the little club he goes to as they have invited him to many things and we are in a very small community here. I disagree and think it should be just Wizzy's friends and family but that's by the by and can see his point.

I am potentially going to have12/13 children and 25 adults and the thought of it makes me want to cry. Last year was smaller and simpler, I did roast chicken, ham in coke, good bread, potato and green salads for the grown ups and added in some traditional party food for the children. I can't do the same food this year and have no idea what I could possibly make to feed all these people.

Our M&S Food closed down a short while ago otherwise I would be ordering in, what do I do? ?

Definitely go with the tea party.

Put on the invitation that everyone has to wear a big stupid hat a la Mad Hatters, and watch your party size shrink. Result.

Loving the afternoon tea party idea. Don't forget your pimms!

I'd definitely go with the afternoon tea party. Cucumber sandwiches, scones and cream & jam, pimms & lemonade.

Or, roast a few chickens the day before, serve with coled boiled new potatoes and big bowlsof salad, fresh bread etc

Or, a traditional (ie 80s) childrens' birthday tea - triangle sandwiches (catered), skips and hula hoops, cherry toms, crudites of cucumber, carrot and pepper, cheese & pineapple on sticks, mini sausage rolls, cocktail sausages, party ring biscuits, iced gems, chocolate fingers. Jelly & ice cream / birthday cake for pud.

We did the above for Elijah's 3rd birthday in April, and it went down really well. We made the sandwiches though. We had the party from 2-4pm as well, so people wouldn't be expecting a big feed, post-lunch and pre-dinner.

Let me know if you need any help re: birthday cake (CareBare on BT live s local and made E a fab Numberjacks cake) and scone-baking X

Depending on what other items you will be putting on, I would normally estimate 3/4 of a round of sandwiches per adult expected and 1/2 round per child. You can round that down by a 1/4 if you are doing lots of other things but I reckon the cream tea/sandwiches route is the way to go. I'd love a scone with cream and jam right now, drool!

I have the same thing going on this weekend for Evie's birthday (happy 3rd, Wizzy!!) and was told by several parents that they do not expect to be fed.

I am doing tea for the littlies and we are doing random BBQ for adults. They shouldn't be too starving though, as it's just around after lunch.

I hope it doens't rain, or the main party game will be sardines ?
