Chinese mail order wedding dress - wedding dresses love.net

SRoper79, 9 April, 2012 at 15:12 Posted on Planning 0 30

Hi

I would be very grateful for any advice - I found a lovely wedding dress on weddingdresseslove.net for under £200. It seems too good to be true. Has anybody bought a dress from this website or can reccommend any similar websites. I think they are based in Hong Kong.

Many thanks ?

Sarah

    Hi,

We've had many of our customers who have bought a dress online and they have been terrible and they have ended up loosing their money and having to come to us.

Good luck, all I would advise is paying by paypal or credit card, whichever way you can have most protection.

I've heard more horror stories about these sites than I have good. Personally I would avoid them all together Smiley sad ..Sorry to be a misery but I wouldn't like to see you post in a few weeks or months time because you're upset that your dress either hasn't turned up or isn't what you expected - no bride to be needs that kind of stress Smiley smile ..If you do decide to go ahead, be safe and pay with either a credit card or paypal as Belle Mariee said x

My best friend bought hers for £80. It arrived and was perfect. A little baggy at the bust but nothing a tailor couldn't fix (even though she didn't bother).

Having said that, she is the ONLY person I've heard of to get a perfect dress. I think she got lucky.

No advice on this particular website but if you are on a budget have a look at the Alfred Angelo Fabuless range of dresses. A google search should bring them up. I got my dress from my local bridal shop for £245 and you would never guess the price by looking at the dress.

I have only seen bad things I am afraid by these mail order dress sites.

    Happy searching for a dress!

Hi Sarah, saw a beautiful dress on a chinese site, ordered it, arrived last week! Got it out of its packaging and it was covered in black marks and smelt damp, the black marks were mould!! Tried the dress on anyway as I decided if I liked it I would try and do something about the marks but the dress fitted badly despite me giving them my measurements! Now they are not replying to my emails requesting a refund. I would steer well clear, not worth the risk! Also it will be a nice day out trying on dresses. Good Luck xx

Hi Lauren - Thanks for the message. So sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with the dress. It's a shame as the dresses look lovely on these websites - such a con. I hope you get things sorted and get some type of a refund! I will definitely be sticking to the shops now! Take care and hope you find another dress soon! xxx

I was also looking at the chinese wedding dresses. There are several companies, some of which have reviews from customers...I concluded that you would probably be ok if you were ordering an informal beachy-style dress, but I would be wary of anything in satin or lace incase they are cheap nylon. Have you tried Monsoon? They have a bridal department and I saw a couple of nice gowns in there from £180 when I went in last week.

Ladies you only have to use the search function to find endless threads about China dresses. The last one was about a week ago I think....

I just want to add a positive experience to this. I ordered my dress from a Chinese company and it was beautfiul. It need a few alterations but i've had so many compliments on it that it was well worth the risk. I checked the reviews which were mainly positive (some had issues but nothing that couldn't be sorted) and there were plenty of positive ones. Mine had a lot details and lace at the bottom and everyone commented on how lovely it was.

I just wanted to let you know that not everyone has a negative experience.

It is totally dependable that you can find a reliable company. I have received my dress from www.theweddingdresses.com and the quality is great! I had it customized to fit me perfectly. It needs some alteration on my waist since it was a bit floppy. I'll even attach my picture in the dress.

Gonna chirp in here, i bought a china made dress and loved it.

China seems to have a big wedding dress making industry and i think the quality varies across it greatly. Mine was from light in the box, not your website so i cant say want the quality of yours would be. I will say that there is a sting in the tail if you dont do your research such as VAT, customs and handling charges my dress was £200 with a £77 tax charge (yes girls, i got the invoice last week, i didnt avoid it )

To be completely honest with you i wasnt planning a small fortune on my dress from the start, i was going to go to monsoon but i want something with colour in and not just white all of over and without paying an arm and leg to get it.

heres some flashes of the dress i ordered.

(edit) i dont know why that picture is squashed but here my thread from last month with pictures! https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/341792.aspx

After following Elixia's success story on here recently, i have decided that I will be buying from light in the box too, so thanks Elixia for taking the plunge Smiley winking I think thats the key though, there are a lot of scare stories around so make sure you do your research before you buy and don't buy from the company unless you have evidence that some one else has had a good experience with that company. On the subject of customs tax, I don't think £77 is that bad when you consider what you are getting. After looking at the alfred angelo range as someone above suggested (sorry can't remember who) I have discovered that the dress which I want (the same one as elixia but in a different colour) is actual an alfred angelo retailing at $1025, so even with the custom tax added still a massive saving! So to OP, yes its risky but I reckon if you do the research before you buy to minimise the risk, it should work out ok.

I asked this question in another section & someone recommended this site http://www.yourbridalwear.co.uk/

The lady said she's really happy with her dress & the people who altered it (she lost weight) commented on the workmanship! I've emailed them for a price for a wedding dress & bridesmaid dresses ?

My friend just got married in a light in the box dress, it was absolutely stunning. Be warned, though, she paid £280 for the dress then had to pay £150 import tax then £150 alterations, despite ordering a made to measure dress. So it cost her £580. But here it is, she looked so amazing in it...

I laughed at this too. Any idea what the tag Line at the end of the bumpers post means? Maybe an old Chinese proverb?!?

    What's too expensive?!

Thanks for sharing that about Lightinthebox!

I've had a reply from that website & they said 'The dresses are made in China. You will receive all of the dresses from our UK agent, they will pay the import duty and VAT.' So I said 'Does that mean the prices quoted include VAT & Tax & I won’t have to pay extra to what you have quoted?' They replied 'you don't need pay extra vat and tax.'

They're on Facebook and there's photos & comments from happy customers. Decisions, decision! ?

I am thinking of using inspirationbridal for my dress (not sure if I'm allowed to post the website or if that is classed as advertising) but another site I've come across in the last few days is yourbridalwear. On their website they have the designer pictures but their facebook page has pictures of dresses they have made. They seem to come in around the £200 mark. Both of these sites seem to be UK based and I'm not entirely sure they're not the same company as their websites are very similar. I know the dress is a big part of the day but I would rather spend the extra money elsewhere than on a dress I'm going to wear once.

    Hi there

Yourbridalwear is the one I'm currently talking to! I've added them on Facebook too. The pics on the website are for illustration purposes only hun. They're not UK based, the dresses are made in China but they have a UK agent. I haven't looked at Inspirationalbridal.

I think getting a dress of the same quality for £200 is brilliant. It's just finding a site to trust, that's why I asked on here as knowing someone has ordered & received a dress they're happy with is obviously good!

Inspirationbridal have pictures of their dresses on the site which is what is angling me towards them at the minute. This is the dress I am coveting- their creation, not the original. I have written to Yourbridalwear also to ask about making my junior bridesmaid dresses and to order a material swatch.
