Chocolate explosions!

28/07/12bride, 31 July, 2011 at 22:09 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi ladies,

Have just stumbled across these whilst looking for ideas to give as gifts for my bridesmaids, what do you think? http://www.mychocolateexplosion.co.uk/#!__page-1 Tacky or nice?

I've got a friends birthday coming up and thinking about getting her one too...

Not tacky at all...but I have seen it done better. I was looking at these sweetie centre piece things a while ago as I want several for my sweetie buffet, and I think I found some really beautiful ones which were stocked in Harrods...but I'm not 100% sure! They were about £40 each so not too bad really, the 'head' was much more tightly packed with candy/chocolates and there wasn't all of that tissue paper involved. They were also mounted onto a proper stand (some were in plant pots or in big glass pots full of more sweets) and they looked really impressive. Not sure how much these are, but if it is close to £40 it might be worth shopping around for a bit.

The OH bought a £25 chocolate explosion for his mum on Mother's Day - it went down a treat! I'd highly recommend it ?

I saw some at a wedding fair recently from this company and they looked naff, the round purple thing has individual chocolate eclairs wrapped in and its £40!!!! for about 30 eclairs wrapped in cellophane? i think not, also the others were either cheapo sweets eg refreshers, flumps, rainbow drops etc and it was £25 and you would be lucky if there wsa £3 worth of stuff in im not kidding (i was looking into them for the kids table but i have better things to spend my money on TBH).

I suppose its each there own tho, but i think they are a waste of money.

It looks like a Franchise so I guess standards will vary. I hate it when there are no prices on websites I would rather not buy than ask. I should think you could make your own really.

My local old-fashioned sweetie shop does these - my OH got one for his 40th, in a '40' mug with loads of different chocs and he loved it. Better than a bunch of flowers IMHO, but yes there are cheaper ways of buying chocolate.
