Choosing a new engagement ring....opinions pls (with pics!)

The Little Jewellery Box, 7 May, 2013 at 21:53 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi ladies,

A few of you may remember that a while ago I sadly lost my engagement ring (old married).

It was insured but obviously I was so upset! Anyway, after a long ongoing saga with the insurance company I am now able to start looking into getting a new ring. We went shopping at the weekend. It felt very bizarre looking for a new ring but I have tried a few now and just wanted opinions! Here they are:-

Or above ring with diamond narrow band added as shown on 1st ring!

So opinions please! Which is your fave and why and which are you not so keen on....and why!!

The second from last is the same as my original ring so I am thinking of getting the same made or maybe having it made with a narrow diamond band so it is slightly different. I've always loved emerald cut so I have surprised myself looking at various designs and I'm confused and very indecisive!

What do you think?!

OK if it were me, I'd want a copy of the original, no questions. However, it depends what you want now, and what will go with your wedding ring. I love the first you posted, but I tried rings like that and they didn't suit me. I also adore the third you posted.

Personally. If I lost my engagement ring, now I'm married, I'm not sure we'd replace it. It's insured, but there are other things we would do with several thousand. Maybe a nice eternity ring and bank the rest!!

I think the second one is my favourite followed by the first one. That's just my opinion though and you're the one who has to wear it so you should make sure you love it, whichever style you go for! How do they match with your wedding ring?

I love the third one, I prefer smaller rings generally so I was drawn to that one x

I like 4 and 5 best - I'm not such a fan of the clusters even though they do sparkle very nicely!

We have had an ongoing saga with two attempts at a company appointed by the insurers to make a ring in the same style as my original and it has been disastrous and taken most of a year. It's been so frustrating. Originally the insurance company said they would pay out vouchers only - no cash. Now, after a year of problems they will pay out cash but it is a much lower sum than the vouchers. We did however consider, like you say, getting a smaller cheaper ring and using the rest of the money elsewhere or banking it....

I like the third one, but only because I'm biased as its just like mine! Its a beautiful style and very eyecatching, although to be honest I wouldn't mind any!!!

The first one is stunning, has a OooOOOooo factor for me.

I have a diamond cluster, we weren't very well off when we got engaged and it was only £200. But it has kept lovely, and sparkles as much as the day I bought it.

I love the second from the bottom but I'm biased because it looks similar to mine. Have you tried having it made to keep the price down? Mine was half the price made in the jewellery quarter than it was in a high street shop!

I like number 2, I can see why you would want to have the same as your origional, no reason why you can't have something slightly different. I love my ER but personally if I could I would add a diamond band...

My vote is for number one, but then that is probably because it is almost identical to my engagement ring ? One thing I would say though is it was difficult to get a wedding ring to go with mine due to the shape and the fact that it is so blingtastic already - you should probably try them all with your wedding ring (if you haven't already) to get a proper idea of how well they fit and match.

I'm drawn most to the third, but I think that it has to feel right to you. Would having the same ring as your original but not quite bring a negative connotation to the ring and would it be better to go for a completely new design with the replacement? I think only you can answer that from how you feel when you try them on.

    Thanks all, really appreciate opinions.

I think when I tried No1 it was a real wow feeling for me! BUT it was chosen by the jeweller for me to try and is in platinum and over budget. I would like 18ct white gold to match my wedding band and he said they could probably get it from the company (Hearts on Fire) in white gold just within my budget....it turns out that they can't unfortunately!!

I've seen a smaller, cheaper version elsewhere which I am considering but have also now seen an almost identical ring to my original but in yellow gold. The jeweller can make it in white gold and add diamonds to the band for me within budget but it will use up all of the insurance money....... plus he is away for a month now so a bit of a wait but I've waited this long so a month won't make much difference.

    I'm so indecisive!
