Choosing colour scheme

Carolanne83, 4 April, 2012 at 16:12 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi, I'm new to this, am getting married on March 2nd 2013 and so far I have booked a venue and picked my dress with very little stress. But i just really can't decide what colour scheme to choose. I haven't got a favourite colour and am thinking of pale yellow and grey or light pink and silver/grey. I love yellow but am not too keen on yellow bridesmaid dresses but i love yellow chair sashes! I love light pink dresses but do not want pink sashes on the chairs, i think it is too 'girly' and just not me!

So, how did you choose your colours? Did you choose the bridesmaid dresses first then decide? Its been driving me mad for about a month now and I feel like I can't move on until I decide! Help

Congrats and welcome! I based it on my flowers. I chose peonies and I particularly wanted pink ones. My colour scheme has ended up being pink and ivory with touches of green though I've tried to avoid too much green as I think the combo of pink and green can look too childish.

Our choice was quite easy my favorate colour is my oh football team colour (red) and it matched our venue however it took us a while to find a venue that wouldn't clash. i would have a look at the type of wedding you want first as it might help you diside the colours e.g vintage looks tend to be pale pinks/greens city theme tends to be black and white etc

If you diside on yellow/pink and grey then you could have the bms in light pink dresses, holding yellow flowers men in grey suits yellow button holes and light pink cravats and the yellow chair sashes!

We went with my fave flowers sunflowers for a splash of bright yellow colour and ran with that for our stationary. On the day we will have silver and ivory as the venue offered that in the little touches such as chairs, napkins, lighting and aisle carpet, and my dress is ivory. OH wanted touches of royal blue to go with his grey suit as it is his team colour so we brought that blue in on our STDs and table crystals and his pocket hanky and cravat. The venue will light the cermeony room in normal light but then the wedding breakfast will have blue uplighters combined with natural light to really bring the colours out.

Thanks for the replies ladies! I am so glad I asked on here, I didn't think of combining both the pink and yellow! I like the sound of pink dresses and yellow sashes, I haven't even thought about what colour flowers to have so that could tie it in together. I like gerberas so will have a look at what colours they come in. I think I might be spending a lot of time on here from now on, i think my family and workmates are fed up of me asking them about colours! I never thought it would turn into such a big decision for me!

If you love yellow you could do the grey/silver bm dresses and they could hold yellow flowers, that way you can have your yellow chair sashes?? I chose the bm dresses first which are pale turquoise, one of my favourite colours and the other colour is pink so pink flowers, turquoise sashes and everything else a bit of a mix along with ivory/white. I've been having a wobble about the pink lately though as I've seen some gorgeous mood boards and ideas with turquoise and yellow! I think it's because I've been looking at the pink too long ?

Hi, have a little look at my pinterest boards where there are some colour scheme boards, pink and yellow go very well together, either in pastel or vibrant form Smiley smile

When my sis got married her theme was yellow and grey. The bridesmaids wore full length lemon bridesmaid dresses with white sashes and the men wore grey suits and the Sashes on the chairs were grey and it looked absolutely stunning and really elegant. I can show you some pics if you'd like. It's inspired me for my own wedding. The men are wearing grey suits and my bridesmaids are wearing an antique rose colour full length dress but like you I don not want pink sashes on chairs as its too much for me so I too am having grey/silver sashes. I am also gonna add a touch of the rose colour into the invites which are predominantly ivory and just the ribbon will be rose and then the table flowers will have antique roses with white flowers x
