Choosing Venues

helsbels35, 24 September, 2010 at 17:50 Posted on Planning 0 3

Just to add to the current topics already on the thread today about venues, I want to know what made you pick your venue? We are finding it hard to pinpoint one out of the ones we have seen already, Im not sure if I am just simply being far too fussy or trying to get more for my money than I can.

So ladies, what made you pick your venue, was it location? the overall price? the views? the food? Or a combination of all. Did you have to compromise on anything? the date? who you had there? choice of food?

Im just finding it really hard working out whether to simply have an even smaller wedding (currently looking at 60 for a sit down meal), slimdown things I ideally wanted like canapes on arrival etc or just to magic up another £2,000 to afford the style of ones I want.

Also, is a venue offering corkage worth going for? do you save a considerable amount compared to in house wines etc?? Today we have found a really nice one offering this almost within our budget and wanted to know others thoughts.

Im looking in the hertfordshire/cambridgeshire/edge of abit of essex border. The church is near royston, hertfordshire. My budget is £5,000-6,000 for the venue (hire, food, drink etc) and I thought I would have lots of choice for this but it seems I was born into the wrong price bracket! lol

Thanks ladies for your help

Mostly price, but also location and the fact we can have ceremony & reception in same place = no need for transport and saves more money, we are on a v tight budget. Our venue hire + food/drinks and entertainment comes in at under £2K so it was a no brainer really, at the end of the day the result is the same, I get a wonderful husband and that's what counts Smiley smile x

Hiya we started looking based on location and price and then went to see our venue just on a whim and loved it! It has a hiring fee which is basically the difference all the food etc cost the same as the other places. We are bringing in r own drinks and paying corkage as this will save us about £500-£600. So for us its def worth it.

Have a chat about the corkage and then work out what you get it for yourself, there are so many offers in supermarkets that you can get some really good deals.

Hope that helps, good luck xx

We're getting married in a brewery. The reasons we chose it were: 1. Exclusive use 2. as far from 'church' wedding as we could get 3. cost 4. IT'S A BREWERY!

But it's a beautiful venue, it has a really good reputation and their regular dinner and beer tasting events are always full. We know a couple who got married there last year, and they said it was fantastic.

I got an instant "feeling" when we drove up. It's just so gorgeous and it will be privately ours which is very important as my OH hates wedding factories where you're bumping into 5 other sets of guests!

Oh that and the price was obviously very important. They are doing a meal for 60 with arrival drink, half bottle of wine, toast drink, evening buffet, DJ, room hire, bridal suite and 2 extra rooms all for a bargain price of £3990! We are oop North though and I think that makes a huge difference.
