Choosing your witnesses

LPsoontobeMrsD, 11 October, 2014 at 12:30 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering who are you choosing to have for your witnesses? Is it traditionally done by anyone in particular?

Thanks xx

From my own observations the witnesses are often parents, MOH, best man, bridesmaid, sibling etc. The nicest signing I saw was a couple who chose their grandparents - one from each side. It was lovely to see them signing the register.

Because I wasn't having adult bm's I wanted my 2 best girls to be witnesses, that felt a bit mean on oh so we ended up having 4 with him choosing his sister (bro was best man) and his best mate x

Me and OH will be choosing one each- i'm going to ask my mum so her details are actually recorded somewhere in relation to the marriage. At present, only fathers details are included and I wanted both of my parents on there.

I think he will be asking his mum too.

It really does vary though, from friends to grandparents to people off of the street in some cases!

Slightly different as we're having a Humanist ceremony so we're also having a separate legal ceremony, where we will need witnesses. We've booked for the basic, £49 marriage, which only allows you two guests, so they obviously have to be your witnesses. We've chosen to have two friends, one of whom was the one who match-made to get us together and the other the first one who knew we were a couple.
