Choreographed 1st dance?

Twickers, 18 November, 2010 at 16:13 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi everyone!

I'm fairly new, been lurking for a while but this is my first post!

I was just wondering what everyone thought of choreogrpahing their 1st dance? I don't want a full on Strictly style routine - just something a bit more than shuffling around in circles..... Is anyone else having/had lessons?

Thanks!

    Hi Twickers,

I've had similar thoughts but I dont know if we could pull it off and make it look any good, then its the added pressure of not forgetting the steps. I've been to a few weddings where they had a dance and it looked great but I think for me I will be sticking to shuffling around the floor.

If its what you want, do it! wow your guests! its not my cup of tea, but then just the thought of everyone looking at me at all sends me into hysterics!

We have been learning to dance, ballroom and latin since January (before we got engaged) so we are going to do a proper dance for at least some of the first dance. Nothing overly choreographed though.

I've been thinking the same, but my OH isnt too keen!

Our 1st dance song will be 'amazed' by lonestar, I then want to cut this song short to follow up with 'time of my life' dirty dancing and do a few little dance routines of our own to this song.....still trying to win OH over with the idea though!

Went to one recently where it started pretty normal and then went into break dancing and stuff, that was pretty cool

I find that choreographed first dances go down a storm. Even the simplest of rourines gets a raptuous applause from the guests.

Definitely do it! We had a choreographed first dance and it was one of the most talked about events of the day! I definitely didn't want to shuffle around in circles so despite neither of us being particularly great dancers, we had some lessons. We learned our whole routine with 5 lessons and lots of (very fun) practice at home. We didn't tell anyone we were doing it either, so it was a surprise for everyone on the day.

    Go for it Smiley smile

    Welcome to the Forum Twickers!

We got a choreographer to help design our first dance. We just had one lesson to get ideas. We then practiced and put own own twist on it. Basically we got her to show us just four good moved that we could repeat and mix in different orders - and it looked good. We danced to Desmond Decker, Me Iseralite - you know, the Vitalite butter advert song! Ha ha!

Good luck with it - the fiurst dance is a great way to kick start the evening part of the reception! :-)
